So who else was annoyed by Megan McCain last night?
On Rachel Maddow. I couldn't even watch the whole thing. "I, like, so totally love the Republican party and stuff!" Uck.

1. She did have that 'valley-speak' going on imo.
Somewhat annoying, but I give her credit for going on a liberal show-not many rethugs will go there.

3. True, but she ended up minimizing what she had to say just by saying it.
She has very valid points to make about how the Repubs have embraced bullying and intolerance. But she will get reamed unless she learns how to make those points better.

As for loving the Republican party, she says she was an independent until about two years ago. Also, just like her daddy, she couldn't discuss economics in any substantial sense!

I'm an attorney, and I have difficulties understanding economics sometimes, seems to me a person admitting they dont know something, particularly a republican is refreshing.

15. I laughed out loud when she admitted that she really didn't understand
economics. Apparently it runs in the family. But then again, maybe ignorance is bliss, because if she had a clue about economics she would realize just how bad the Republican Party is.

It made me wonder just what it is about the Republican Party that she loves, if she doesn't have enough knowledge of their economic plans to answer a simple question. Is it their penchant for using military force, their appeal to the racists and bigots? Is it their tax codes that benefit the extremely wealthy like her family while much of the rest of Americans are struggling to meet their basic needs? Did she not see the type of people that showed up for her dad and Palin's rallies?

24. No, it is not unreasonable at all
MSNBCis a national cable television network. She is the daughter of a past presidential candidate. It is not at all unrealistic to ask that she represent herself in a professional way and explain her opinions in a clear and rational manner, and not throw around meaningless statements such as "I love the Republican party" as a motive for her efforts. she should be able to state what really does need to be changed in more than the most basic superficial terms. If Kerry's daughters had said their motivation was "I love the Democratic party" in 2004 it would have been used to beat them up for the next year.

33. Seems they are doing marketing research of late; trotting out different 'types'
with each 'type' saying really stupid stuff.
Romney
Huckabee
McCain
Palin
Paul

Coulter (they seem to be getting the message SHE is outta style)

Steele and his hip, hip-hop, now retro hipster musical stylings :eyes: ("Pack Rats"? pack rats?)
Newt (whose old congressional district used to get the most earmarks) the Philanderer
Now the younger, blonder McCain like, you know, we twitter, it's so cool that Dad and Mom twitter...

They are feeling around in the dark, trying to figure what voters are 'buying' now. They STILL can't grasp that it is their philosophy and it's abysmal track record in practice that has driven voters away looking for substantive CHANGE.

It is marketing research; study groups; trying to see what IMAGE voters will buy. Same old philosophy, same method: run a puppet to divert the masses while you skin them alive.

10. not really
she came across fairly reasonable to me. Came across as a moderate republican. Heck if all republicans were like her in demeanor and attitude, things would be a lot better. Obviously she's young and inexperienced but she was pretty quick to say, hey, I dont understand economics so wont answer that question instead of trying to pretend she did.

17. I think Rachel usually gives really good interviews
Edited on Thu Mar-12-09 08:16 AM by ErinBerin84
But I was disappointed in this one. She should have asked Meghan WHY she is a Republican, HOW should the Republican party reach out to young people, etc. Like, Meghan McCain seems pleasant enough and I'm sure it sucks that she's getting "hate mail" for the Anne Coulter thing, but at the same time, I'm not going to give her tons of props for doing just that. It just seemed like a repeat of "I'm a DIFFERENT kind of Republican" and "I'm the ONLY ONE out there doing this." Rachel seemed like she was trying a bit too hard to not offend her. I mean, given it must be difficult to go on a show that you know has ridiculed your father, but there was a little too much "I read your twitter, I know when you talk to your mom and when you talk to your dad!" from Rachel. Oh well. Also, I posted this in the other forum, but she told the Columbia Journalism review that the White House press corps is "in love" with Obama and "let's him get away with everything". What do they let him get away with? What principles does she believe in? Again,oh well. She's a likable person, but the questions could have been better. I did appreciate that she just admitted that she didn't really understand economics. It would have been nice to hear her say WHY she "fell in love" with the Republican party. I didn't find her personality annoying (yeah, she was kind of valley girl, but aside from that), but the whole interview was kind of vacuous.

19. I wanted rachel to ask her what it was that she found so great about the republican party
because the kid never explained just WHY she loved it so much. Is it the repressive, hateful, bs part of it? What policies that the republican party espouses does this girl agree with? She wanted to make sure everyone knew she was never a democrat... she was an independent before. I was an independent too. The republicans don't seem to stand for anything right now except for saying one thing and doing another. Personally I just don't get it.

26. Megan McCain is bright enough to realize that the majority of Americans find Ann Coulter
Edited on Thu Mar-12-09 08:36 AM by PA Democrat
and Rush Limbaugh repugnant. She doesn't want their stench to rub off on her.

But she completely FAILED to express what it is about the Republican Party that she "loves". She claims she doesn't understand their economic plans. I guess she is fine with waging illegal wars, trashing the Constitution, increasing the income gap between the rich and the rest of America, the lack of affordable health care, oppression of gay people, curtailing women's reproductive rights, etc. because that is how most of America sees the Republican Party.

And yet her only message was, "Young people should join the Republican Party because it's just like so cool, and we're not like Ann Coulter, really. Believe me. We're not all crazy like her, honest.

Edited on Thu Mar-12-09 09:24 AM by ThomWV
After listening to about half of what she had to say last night (I changed channels about half way through) it was pretty clear to me that the girl never had a realization in her life. My guess is that one of daddy's advisers told her to go after the low hanging fruit - no pun intended.
