Know what's kinda great?
Flame-wars and locked threads on merit pay for teachers specifically, and education reform generally.

Why?

Cuz the President has been talking about it.

When the President talks about something these days - stimulus bills, stem cell research, health care reform, education reform, etc. - it means something good is going to happen, and something bad is going to be at least partially fixed.

We here at DU are going to disagree on the details of everything that happens, often energetically.

But that means something is happening.

So flame away. I, for one, love every second of it.

:toast:

2. I haven't
expressed any opinion on the topic, because I really an not informed to the point where I think I have anything of value to offer. But I have been reading most of the threads on the topic, and finding the OPs and discussions that follow to be very interesting. It reminded me of the night last November when Obama was elected President: we had four couples over, and at least one person from each of the group was a teacher. A number of times when we have socialized with these friends, those that teach have expressed a variety of opinions on "merit pay." It's an important topic, and I agree with you that it is a good issue for greater discussion.
