Teen gives away thousands in cash he found.. Cops confiscate the money

Cops say 'good kid' came across bag full of $100 bills in a ditch.

The bag full of money he found was apparently tossed by a drug dealer.

When asked how he got the $100 bills, the student first said it was his allowance. He later said he found it in a ditch — and led police to a spot by a highway where they also found marijuana and scales.The boy, described as learning disabled, gave away about $11,000 of the nearly $18,000 in the bag. Law officers collected the money from students and from the school bus aide, who had reported that someone slipped $1,200 into her bag.

The boy is not expected to face charges. A sheriff's deputy says he's "a good kid" who was trying to help people in need.

I think it was just wrong for the cops to do that. But Bernie Madoff, they're just now getting round to taking his freedom, who knows when they'll get around to taking his money. The kid found the money, Bernie stole his.

3. Our drug laws are strange when it comes to the money

It's like, in this one area, we're still hopping around on one foot and tossing salt over our shoulders to ward off evil and curses. The law basically says that the money is "evil" and must be confiscated, even if it had been used in actually legal transactions. As if its presence might somehow turn the people handling it into crack dealers by sheer force of spiritual malignancy or something.
