Do you like your Governor?
Mine is a Democrat and I should like him, but I don't. I live in Upstate NY and I think Patterson stinks.

He did some town hall meetings in Rochester, and Geneso today and it was covered by the local television stations and newspapers.

From my take he sounds less like President Obama and more like Dumbya.

His entire plan to dig the NY State out of debt seems to be to place the entire burden on the middle class, asking us to sacrafice, while asking the wealthiest to give up nothing, nothing at all. He defends his position with the same old tired argument that we will loose jobs, if the rich leave NY. That's what he told our SUNNY students about why he is raising their tution, but not taxes on the rich.

We had a Republican governor, Repulican controlled state legislator, Republican President, and Republican congress who used the same GD tired old argument for eight GD years. So why aren't we literally swimming in jobs and budget surpluses if all it takes is to stick it to the poor and middle class and let the wealthy get off scott free?

And my sister just told me tonight a nurse's aide went to one of Patterson's public meetings, and said if he cuts Medicaid as much as he proposes she will loose her job, his answer, "well we all need to make sacrafices." Why the hell isn't he concerned about loosing that job and more like it.

Apparently Patterson and the rich are spared "sacrafices." That's for we little people.

I sure hope he is not the Democratic nominee for Governor, in the next election. If he is I won't vote for him, because I swore I would cut off my right hand, before ever voting for a Repulican again, even one who claims he is a Democrat. More like a Bush clone if you ask me.

So do you like your governor?

If Rachel Maddow keeps having him on her show I hope she eventually tears him a new one. I'm tired of her giving him a national platform.

I take comfort in remembering he has been elected with pluralities, not majorities.

I have been feeling kind of disloyal to the party for not liking him, but I just don't feel at all confident in his leadership. I truly do hope we dump him before the next election. Heck his poll numbers are lower than Spitzer's right before he resigned.

I really hope too the State legislator will drop the health care taxes, and cuts, from the budget.

hahaha, what do you think?

The only thing worse than a dumbass Republican governor, is a dumbass Republican governer trying to position himself to run for president in a few years.

Using the stimulus money to pay down the debt when we have the second largest unemployment rate in the nation, behind only MICHIGAN? How stupid can you be? He should just use it to write checks to his Republican supporters and call it a lifetime tax rebate or something.

45. At least he's still trying to keep the pretense.
Jim Gibbons is...well, here's part of the Wikipedia outline about the Nevada gov:

* 4 Gubernatorial initiatives
o 4.1 Failed attempt at Mexican reimbursement
o 4.2 State budget
o 4.3 Lamoille Land Deal
o 4.4 Federal bribery investigation
o 4.5 Alleged sexual assault
o 4.6 Employing an undocumented housekeeper/nanny
o 4.7 Plagiarism
o 4.8 Interference with an ongoing investigation
* 5 Criticism and controversy
o 5.1 Undeclared donations to legal defense fund
o 5.2 Land for mining industry donors
o 5.3 Easing mercury standards for mining industry donors
o 5.4 Outlook password accident
o 5.5 Office attendance

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Gibbons_(United_States_politician)

It's worth the read. They left out one of my favorite parts, though: before the state of the state speech each year, someone sings the national anthem. This year the original invitation went to the daughter of the woman Gibbons has been having an affair with--yes, the one his wife accused of being a home wrecker, the one he texted 860 times in one month. The daughter, having more sense then either her mother or the governor, refused.

Fairly well documented. Poor woman. A majority of Nevadans voted for him anyway (most people think it's because his opponent was a woman, a mortal sin in the conservative north of the state).

Lingle's (R-Plays A Moderate On TV) latest caper is to try to take $300 million dollars in stimulus funds intended for Medicaid and just pour it into the general fund. :grr:

Of course, the chair of the House Finance Committee is going along with that -- and he's a Dem. :eyes: In fact, 44 of 51 reps are Dems. In the Senate, it's 23-2; I still don't know how they manage to cover all the committees, or what would happen if the other guy wanted to challenge for the leadership. :P

Its good to hear that there are people who are happy with their governor. I really wanted to like mine but I can't, lol. Today I even had the horrible thought that even George Patacki, who I called Puke Peckerhead, his entire eight years in office, wouldn't have put forth a budget that is this bad a joke. I know times are bad, but that's when you need a bold and better budget.

He said he knew his tax on sugar sodas wasn't going to pass he just wanted to draw attention to childhood obseity. Take out ads, don't play publicity game with a budget in this critical time.

23. I do like Jennifer Granholm
She's had to do some distasteful things as a result of our former Republican Governor Engler draining the state coiffures. She gets a lot of grief from constituents for raising fees for the motor vehicle services along with increasing the cost of fines for traffic offenses, and of course the most recent sin tax on cigarette smokers.

I do wish that she'd understand that there are other sins to tax along with smoking that could go to pay for poor children's health care... I'm thinking fast food here. After all, it is one of the biggest reasons for diabetes and obesity in children and young adults today. It wouldn't hurt to put a penny or two tax on that frosty or frozen coke or those high fat fried hamburgers and fries. Raising the tax a cent or two on alcohol would also help to make the tax more equitable and ensuring that a larger segment of the population contributes. It should not just be smokers that bear the brunt of this, if we quit or die, who will provide the funds to insure these children?

Jenn, I like ya but please consider these other sins. I know, it's easier to hate smokers and we really don't have a loud voice as a lobby.. but still...

but his answers to those students and the health care workers really ticked me off. He said to one of the students: "I am not asking you to agree with me, about not raising taxes on the wealthy, just wondering if you really understand the argument against it. To me he might as well have said: "you are just selfish, not willing to sacrafice, and just out here bitching about something you don't even understand." Patterson to me seems like the one who doesn't understand.

He says he is against the fair taxation proposal, but he is pretty sure his fellow Democrats in the legislature will vote for it. So maybe he's playing games, so he can get rich donors for his election bid, by saying he was against it. Still I don't care for it.

Plus what's this health care tax all about? People can barely even afford health care now. Our paper mentioned it but really didn't explain it that well.

51. he's really trying his best
unfortunately he has a very uphill job (and re-election campaign this year too). It seems that no matter what he does, he'll be ripped on both sides.

I personally think he should be primaried this year, but I don't see it happening. I just don't want a GOP governor, and it might be a reality.

You either love him, hate him, or don't care one way or another about him.

62. Phil Bredesen - I'm in a love/hate with him
Edited on Thu Mar-12-09 10:16 PM by TornadoTN
He's been a very good Governor for us in this very odd state. But he also takes spells where he wants to be GOP-light and he has abandoned some very good candidates in this state for various reasons.

Rumor has it that he's wanting to run for Senate against Corker in 2012. I hope the rumors are right.

73. How about him backpedaling on some of the zillion little taxes
Why the hell did he waste anyone's time on those?

I had no idea the income tax brackets in NY were so non-progressive until recently. Between that and hearing how much both houses of the legislature spend on staffs and perks, I'm starting to understand where the hell our high taxes go. (Local rule layers of govmt too)
