For conservatives, politics is waging war against liberals, not about what is best for the nation

I asked a conservative on another board whether he thought John McCain was a "RINO."

I pointed out that he has voted with the GOP over 90 percent of the time, and has a lifetime rating of over 80 from the American Conservative Union.

His response: "Yes he is, he is a moderate that seeks to work with liberals, not to defeat them."

It's all about defeating "liberals" and scoring cheap political points for the modern GOP. What happened to the Republicans who actually gave a shit about the American people?

This stuff angers me to no end.

1. The GOP isn't about what is best for the nation. It is only about what is best
for the rich and how to sell that to enough people to vote the GOP into power every so often.

2. Conservatives are the big heavy anvil that drags on liberals' drive for progress.

3. I don't agree with your line of reasoning on this.
Rightists believe that combating liberalism IS what is best for the nation. I contrarily believe that weakening and dissolving fascism and rightism is in the people's interest. Sometimes that wouldn't appear to be so in the short term, but you have to pay a price for the greater benefit.
