Pulp Friction
"By cutting up old paperbacks, Thomas Allen is creating new sense of pop suspense and mystery."

By cutting up old paperbacks, Thomas Allen is creating new sense of pop sexism, voyeurism and demeaning, soft porn cliches.

By featuring the image of a woman exposing her breasts prominently on the Home Page, this site is enabling it.

Day after day after day............

Any other ads available?

2. Yes it's art and it's also a woman on the Home page exposing her breasts.
The quaint retro style may hide from some eyes the fact.

4. No, that's in your own mind.
Squint your eyes and look closer.

6. If you really want to see if you can get the ad removed from DU
and aren't just trying to encourage another peckfest, pm the DU admin.

8. or a
peckerfest.

The ads are contracted with the parent co. Usually the cycle doesn't last as bigoted/repetitive as to be remarkable.

3. Why, I'm outraged I tell you! Outraged!
Or, I suppose there's a random outside chance that I might be, if I hadn't disabled the ads a long time ago.

Wait... there are ads?

However, it appears to be gone now.

10. I think the first 3 or 5 or 10 or 12 times in the first week she popped up
was sufficient. :hi:

11. Options--->Edit Your Preferences--->Display Google Ads (set to "no")
Edited on Sat Mar-14-09 05:08 AM by Warren DeMontague
Of course, for this functionality, one does have to have a donor star. (as you, I, and the OP all do) Que Sera.

Also, totally free for Firefox Users:

Adblock Plus

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

Noscript

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722

With enthusiastic use of those two, you shouldn't ever have to see too much of anything on a web page that you really don't want to see.

12. No, that's not true, at least for me. I have mine set that way.

On the homepage, there's a column of ads that I think everyone (whether a donor or not) sees. (Well, maybe not with the Firefox user doing what you say. I don't know about that.) However, I think that everyone else sees that column of ads on the homepage.

If you go to the homepage, do you see the advertisement column to the left of the DU Journals? (If not, maybe it's because of the Adblock Plus and Noscript addons.)

(By the way, the same is true for the Latest Discussions page. There's a column on the left.)

13. Nope. When I go to the home page, on the far left I see a column of political videos. No ads.
I checked my noscript settings, and I'm not allowing "blogads.com", so maybe that's the culprit.

I would recommend noscript anyway, because it will keep web pages from doing all sorts of unwanted funny business- not just ads.

14. Very intesting. For the most part, I use Firefox anyway.
I'll have to look into it. I don't really mind seeing those particular ads usually, but sometimes they can be really irritating. It's nice to know that there's a way around them if they get really annoying.

Thanks so much for the information! :)

15. Absolutely, we should all be offended.
We all know that breasts have no place in a civilized society. Who knows what bad things might happen if we are "exposed" to breasts?
