Secret emails show Iraq dossier was 'sexed up'

Intelligence chiefs criticised 'iffy drafting' of key document

By Nigel Morris, Deputy Political Editor

Friday, 13 March 2009

Secret Whitehall emails released yesterday provide damning new evidence that the notorious dossier making the case for invading Iraq was "sexed up".

They disclose that the intelligence services were sceptical over the "iffy drafting" of government claims that Saddam Hussein could mount a missile strike on his neighbours within 45 minutes of ordering an attack.

Officials privately mocked assertions that the Iraqi president was covertly trying to develop a nuclear capability and wisecracked that perhaps he had recruited "Dr Frankenstein" to his supposed crack team of nuclear scientists.

The release of a series of confidential memos and emails, following a protracted Freedom of Information battle, reignited the controversy over accusations that Tony Blair's government "spun" Britain into war.

2. Who Again Was The Guy That Was Suicided Over This?.....
I recall that a guy was found in the forest under suspicious circumstances that said that they 'sexed up' the dossier. What was his name? Was it David Kelly?

3. David Kelly, whose last email was from propagandist/NYT reporter Judith Miller.

Amongst the e-mails on that last day, there was one message which does not appear to show that Dr Kelly was a threat to himself, but that he felt threatened by others. He told his friend, journalist Judith Miller that there were "many dark actors playing games".

4. Notice How Many Things We Suspected Of This Time In Our History Are......
being proven as true. Now Kelly's death even becomes more suspicious. What other things happened in this period in history that have us labeled as 'conspiracy theorists' will be proved to be true?

5. I 1st came to DU after the '04 election theft in OH. I'm still waiting for that one to be
exposed.

I followed the Plame/Libby course of events closely. I hope there will be more fallout over the criminal activity of that era.

8. Nothing will ever be done about this. It SHOULD be but it won't -
remember the Downing St memos, and the LOADS of other evidence that this invasion/occupation was based on lies?

Nothing has been done about any of that. No matter what comes out - I have a hard time imagining anyone will go after those bastards.

10. "...had recruited "Dr Frankenstein" to his supposed crack team of nuclear scientists."
Does anyone else think this might be the most ignorant allusion ever? It sounds kind of funny on the surface, but damn, get your branches of science straight.

If these are the kinds of ignorant boobs making policy for Great Britain, I feel very sorry(ier) for the people.
