I don't get why Stewart picked Cramer for his target, except maybe that Cramer was the only one who took the earlier bait and fired back.

I mean the actual target was CNBC, and perhaps more generally cable tv financial talking heads (and their producers and bosses). And quite deservedly so.

However, there are much more justified targets at CNBC imo, such as Larry Kudlow with his unalloyed booster propaganda, or Charlie Gasparino who takes every day as an opportunity to bash taxes on the rich. Not to mention several others there whose analysis/reporting is totally devoted to pushing the robber baron agenda.

Cramer on the other hand is frequently out of step with that and will say so, or if others get all starry-eyed generally he will shoot that down and specify where and how to be starry-eyed and where to be cold-eyed. Sure, he's wrong sometimes about how the future turns out. Sure, he gets punked sometimes by sources he should have treated more skeptically. Those are simply occupational hazards, and when he fucks up he certainly deserves criticism. But I've never felt he was deliberately trying to deceive or mislead. Kudlow and Gasparino deceive and mislead every week-day and sometimes on week-ends.

However, I think the worst short-coming of TDSWJS was using that 2006 interview to gig Cramer when it has virtually nothing to do with the current unpleasantness. Yes, it put Cramer in a bad light talking about a sort of stock manipulation that might or might not have taken place years before the 06 interview. For TDSWJS writers/Stewart to say that one could draw a straight line from the 06 interview to Hank Paulson kneeling before Nancy Pelosi is patently ludicrous. The Great Wipeout had nothing to do with manipulating stock prices, unless one is counting the rating agencies and the SEC and the Fed as stock manipulators.

Maybe they picked on Cramer because he could be a good sport about it, as he appears to have been. Their expose and critique of CNBC and financial reporting is right on and welcome. I've watched a fair amount of CNBC over the years and I imagine that I yell at their inane, self-serving jabber as much as anyone. I seldom watch much of Cramer's show because I don't like it that much with all the noise. I like him better when he's a guest somewhere injecting occasional reality into the typical boost-fest.

I'm just saying that there are CNBCers who fit the Daily Show portrayal of mendacity much better than Jim Cramer. That's all.

CNBC is just one big giant commercial, and Jon called them on it! Cramer's ego tried to disregard Stewart as only a comedian with a little TV show.

Instead Cramer opened the door and found a smart and gutsy American willing to call his bluff & CNBC out as the Wall Street shills that they are. Jon's audience is huge, and his audience is intelligent - dumb or ignorant people don't watch Jon - his comedy is way above their heads - Cramer didn't anticipate that.

I'm hoping CNBC gets an over-haul. The shout-fest over at 'Crossfire' got canceled after Jon called them out as partisan pundits.

by accusing him of playing video which said he recommended buying Bear Stearns stock. Actually, the video in question showed him answering a letter from a viewer by recommending that he hold on to his Bears Stearns stock. In the face of the evidence, Rick Santelli was smart enough to beat a strategic retreat by canceling his TDS appearance. Sure, Jon picked on HIM as a result, but it amounted to a slap on the wrist compared to what he dealt to Cramer!
