John Dean: Cheney is guilty of 'murder' if Hersh claims are true

Investigative reporter Seymour Hersh’s bombshell earlier this week that Vice President Dick Cheney controlled an “executive assassination ring” continues to reverberate throughout Washington, with Nixon aide John Dean going so far as to accuse the former VP of murder if the charges are true.

1. Someone please explain, s'il vous plait...

if Hersh has credible info about this ring, why he is not turning over his info to law enforcement or the justice dept. or Congress to investigate? Or is he? These are pretty spectacular charges to leak. It just seems strange to me that he would leak this and then say, I'm working on it for a book.

2. I agree. And I also wonder why Hersh is still alive.

Not that I doubt the story (Many have had these suspicions forever), but there are some big questions left unanswered.

6. He's been credible in the past, so I'm not dismissing what he says, either--

but Jesus, if I was basically accusing the former VP of the US as heading up a super-secret murder ring, I'm not sure I'd announce my suspicions and then wait to put the proof in a book first--it reduces him to a Jerome Corsi type, IMO--making wild accusations and then saying "read the book". If he has real proof, it should be a LEGAL or CRIMINAL issue first, and a money-making/reputation-making venture second, after proper investigations are at least underway. And yeah, he should be careful...

3. Yup. And I think in this case "murder" is much worse than

"war crimes". Our former VP is a MURDERER.

4. What about the "It's not murder if the President approved" defense?

Under the all-encompassing rubric of "We are at War" the Imperial Junta may have decided that it is not murder when Bush says, "Let's kill Saddam" or whomever, you or me even.
