I wonder where all the nursing home inspectors are???
KO had a story a few weeks ago about the fact that Bush had made nursing home inspectors federal employees. Because of this, these people couldn't testify in legal cases. This helped the owners for all intents and purposes. Nobody realized this until 37 days after Bush left.
I wonder how many little surprises there have been left in all areas of government. This may be why some acts seem totally at odds with what one would expect or nonsensical. I have no doubt that a lot of actions are pragmatic political changes or deals. However, I wonder if there are things we can't see or be told about that have to be undone quietly so they don't make a much larger mess if incorrectly handled. The new administration hasn't even been in office 2 months yet.
I remember GD spending 2 days on posts at that time about how Bush was catering to the big corporations that run nursing homes by federalizing inspectors - and about how they would no longer testify in civil lawsuits. So obviously someone noticed it early than 37 days after Bush left office.
It's been a rough 12 months for me and my sense of time is all screwy but I'm thinking this was last year before the elections. Not necessarily RIGHT before - it may have even been much earlier in the year.
