If we were going to give merit pay to parents
how would we measure how good they are?

7. If. It's a hypothetical.
For example: what if part of parental merit pay was based on the kids' ability to read when they entered kindergarten? You know, give them a standardized entrance test and pay parents accordingly.

What else?

4. My kids are all on the honor roll and are all still virgins (I think)
How much is that worth?

8. More pay to parents whose kids don't put out.
That's interesting.

Can't really take the parents' word for it though, because we all like to believe that about our kids ... it would involve medical verification. They do that in some cultures, though, right? They measure particularly the girls' worth by if she's still "pure."

17. The virginity of our kids is an area the Govt should stay faaaar away from.
After all, how can you pay for that unless you test for it...for girls at least. How in the world would a boy ever prove that?

5. Well, we start with the Robinsons (Michelle's parents) and measure down from there.

6. Top pay levels should go to parents of one boy and one girl...
I was thinking whites only, but Muslim is the new black, so "Christian" only. The kids have to be perfect, of course, so birth defects bring pay cuts. Downs Syndrome parents are fined. Parents of kids who grow up to commit crimes are retroactively fined. If your kid dies before becoming a productive member of society, the fine will be the average lifetime salary of someone born in his/her year (remember, 79 cents on the dollar for girls).

Bill

Just in case: :sarcasm:

14. So a kids' GPA
is in large part a result of good parenting, you think?

16. Absolutely!
Its all about how much a parent values education.

It has been my experience that up to a certain level where it gets complex enough that it does take a certain genius, hard work trumps pure smarts when it comes to grades.

My brother and I always scored higher than my sister on things like SATs and other standardized testing. But my sister completely kicked our BUTTS in GPA because she was always more diligent than we are.

Things like diligence and hard work are things we learn from our parents.

12. If the kids turn out bad as adults, jail the parents.

Hey, it makes as much sense as merit pay for teachers.

15. No wait, this is good!
I remember hearing that 85% of people grow up in dysfunctional families. Think of the money we'd save.
