Bush wants to defile the grounds of Southern Methodist University by building a museum to the eight-year nightmare that was his time in the White House. It will also house a Conservative Policy Institute devoted to the notion that he was a good president and the press just got it all wrong. Price: reportedly $300 million, although it will probably be $400 million by the time it's ready to receive visitors.
There are of course a number of problems with this plan. Tourism will not increase in Dallas thanks to the Library--freepers who have the time and money to go to the Bush library probably also have kids who'd rather go to Disneyland. The albatross of a building will consume precious greenspace on campus that would be better used as anything else--student gathering areas, a nuclear-waste dump, a huge outdoor toilet...ANYTHING is better than a monument to the worst president ever. Being affiliated with this...this...this THING will forever soil the reputation of what was once considered a fine university. And y'know, we need all the granite they're going to waste constructing the buildings for countertops in the homes that will be built after President Obama fixes the economy.
Besides, if they DO build this thing it will be nothing but a repository for lies.
There needs to be a Counter-Bush Library, as I've written before, but the perfect place for it is in cyberspace so everyone could visit any time they wanted. You'd need a decent server, some good server software, a set of templates for all the popular web page editors so We The People could participate--making the Counter-Bush Library far more democratic than George W. Bush ever was, and some rackspace in the House Democratic Caucus' server closet. (Fuck it: they wouldn't impeach the bastard, let them pay for the bandwidth.) This wouldn't be a Wiki--it couldn't be; Shrub's legion of admirers (FR, lucianne.com and hannity.com members, plus fans of Powerline and Little Green Footballs) would tear it up in a minute. Each page submitted would be reviewed by progressives to ensure no pro-Bush content existed.
It's cheap, doable and totally necessary.
