Cost of the proposed Bush Library: $300 million. A counter-Bush library? Less than $10,000
Bush wants to defile the grounds of Southern Methodist University by building a museum to the eight-year nightmare that was his time in the White House. It will also house a Conservative Policy Institute devoted to the notion that he was a good president and the press just got it all wrong. Price: reportedly $300 million, although it will probably be $400 million by the time it's ready to receive visitors.

There are of course a number of problems with this plan. Tourism will not increase in Dallas thanks to the Library--freepers who have the time and money to go to the Bush library probably also have kids who'd rather go to Disneyland. The albatross of a building will consume precious greenspace on campus that would be better used as anything else--student gathering areas, a nuclear-waste dump, a huge outdoor toilet...ANYTHING is better than a monument to the worst president ever. Being affiliated with this...this...this THING will forever soil the reputation of what was once considered a fine university. And y'know, we need all the granite they're going to waste constructing the buildings for countertops in the homes that will be built after President Obama fixes the economy.

Besides, if they DO build this thing it will be nothing but a repository for lies.

There needs to be a Counter-Bush Library, as I've written before, but the perfect place for it is in cyberspace so everyone could visit any time they wanted. You'd need a decent server, some good server software, a set of templates for all the popular web page editors so We The People could participate--making the Counter-Bush Library far more democratic than George W. Bush ever was, and some rackspace in the House Democratic Caucus' server closet. (Fuck it: they wouldn't impeach the bastard, let them pay for the bandwidth.) This wouldn't be a Wiki--it couldn't be; Shrub's legion of admirers (FR, lucianne.com and hannity.com members, plus fans of Powerline and Little Green Footballs) would tear it up in a minute. Each page submitted would be reviewed by progressives to ensure no pro-Bush content existed.

It's cheap, doable and totally necessary.

5. Can't we pass a law limiting how much taxpayer money will go into these projects?
I really don't want a dime spent for an oversized propaganda room.

6. I would like to contribute to the counter Bush Library.
I had an instant bad reaction when I heard that Republicans were pushing George for President. I said to myself - but he could never beat Gore - Gore is so intelligent.

Then I read about Republican operatives beating the bushes to find certain old photos. Of course, I assemed Bush, Then, I read that they were looking for one in particula which someone was a photo of someone on top of table dancing nude except for boots.

I thought that wouldn't be Bradley, Gore, Bauer, Buchanen, Nader or any of the others.

I said - he'll never win. And he didnt't.

The world lost.

Other 1999 spotlight memories -

It's announced the Dick Cheney was selected to vet a VP candidate.
Then they give us the phoney story that George decided that Cheney was the man.
Perhapa George never knew what Dick, Donald, and their backers knew - it was the plan to takeover the Middle East (except for Saudi Arabia)..

Then we had the mike-on comment where Cheney cusses a journalist.

I knew things would be ugly if they got in, but I never thought people would be stupid enough to vote them in. They weren't.

Keep us posted on the counter-library.

8. Three HUNDRED million
Since these things are privately funded, the intent was for Bush's buddies, the people who got rich in his eight years, to give back by funding his monument.

Unfortunately for him, thanks to his policies they're not rich anymore. Oops.
