Bill Maher's show Friday 3/13
I want to start off by saying I like Bill Maher and watch him every Friday on HBO when his show is on. I'll agree with Bill 98% of the time. But this last Friday he blasted the teachers union sounding like a "typical" right wing hack. Evidently this is one time he didn't do his research. The EFCA was re-introduced into both houses during the week and he couldn't have picked a worse time to harangue about unions. I think we all can agree that the Teachers Union has its problems, but to carry on and blame the teachers union for ALL the ills in our education system is wrong. I will continue to watch his show, but I lost a lot of respect for him on this issue. I'm a firm believer in calling out a so called Liberal if he/she is wrong on a subject just the same as I would a conservative. Anyone else see the show and want to comment?

1. I saw and I agree
I thought it was inappropriate.

Teaching is one of the most poorly paid professions relative to its importance in our society. Union bashing is totally out of place in the education argument.

2. I turned it off at the point where he compares teachers to pedophiles.
I used to like Maher. Can't stand him now and won't watch him.

5. I was surprised to hear him say that

The whole episode was bad. The two guests during the round-table were talking over each other. The conservative guest was annoying. Sarah Silverman was there with nothing to add to the program. It wasn't an enjoyable hour.

I can understand you not wanting to watch now....I've had times when I've wanted to turn him off. My issue with Bill has been the GM bashing. In the last episode, he pretty much started off with making an unfunny GM joke. The final episode of last season aired around the time the auto bailout was being discussed....that episode almost made me not want to watch his program anymore.

3. not every liberal
or entertainment person is up on every issue, certainly Maher's in that group, I wondered about his vocerifous attack on teachers, since he was not clear how he reached his conclusion.

But I was more interested in the gasbag Breitbart, the wantabee Limpball, who claimed to have been a liberal "once upon a time." What a fairy tale teller, thankfully coupled up with Dyson was brilliant, who cleaned his clock!

.....moron. Although, did you notice him agreeing with Maher on the teacher bashing?

7. Breitbart or Dyson? I really only wanted to hear Dyson.

He annoys some people but I love listening to him because he's brilliant AND he's musical when he speaks.

/oops

4. Maher is too close to his boy....er ....friend Ann Coulter
He too often thinks that he should copy her "throw shit on the wall to see what sticks" way of getting attention.

8. My wife is a teacher
and she and I watch Maher all the time, heck his show is on the DVR must record list. After watching the show, my wife was angry with Bill! We talked for a bit about his commentary, I said " Bill's not married and has no children, so he knows not of what he speaks", my wife agreed and said "He should go to an inner city school, teach a class of 7/8th graders for a week, he'll change his mind real quick".

9. I find it a little offensive to act if ONLY an inner city school has problem kids...
There are MANY suburbans districts that have severe problems with kids also. Think about the ones that have been told their entire life that they are "special" while both parents work to have more than than the "Jones'" and have been handed every toy, video game, dvd, tv, phone, mp3 player, cash and cars and use drugs, mainly their parent's prescription drugs!

Many of them cause teachers headaches too!

10. I've written him off after this episode
This was clearly an area he knew absolutely nothing about. Coming at a time when 26.000 California teachers have been given pink slips and that the education of thousands of children hang in the balance, his remarks were unconscionable. Keep this stuff up Bill and you may end up sounding like Rush.

11. In addition to bashing the teacher's union, he also took a swipe at Social Security...
He recited the old (and right-wing) line that Social Security is "broken" and "has got to go," etc.

Maher has also been tampering with the show's format -- downsizing the panel from three guests to two. Last Friday, the two panelists gave way early to a lengthy appearance by comic Sarah Silverman, which was, for the most part, an entertainment segment, fairly devoid of political content.

I've been a fan of Maher for years, but content of the 3/13 program has given me pause.

I couldn't believe the bullshit he was spewing.
