Science on Hold (Living on Earth)
Air Date: Week of March 13, 2009
Despite President Barack Obama's recent focus on science, his two nominees for high-profile science positions are stuck in Senate limbo. Anonymous Senators have put holds on the confirmation of Jane Lubchenco, picked to head the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and John Holdren, chosen as the president's special assistant for science and technology. The delay is bad for President Obama and for Americans, says Francesca Grifo, a senior scientists with the Union of Concerned Scientists.

"Despite President Barack Obama's recent focus on science" ... :eyes: Um, that's "because", not "despite". The Ideology team clearly wants to keep the Facts team off the field as long as they can.

3. They've got enough disdain for education, in general, to go around.
NCLB, vouchers for religious schools, homeschooling, the takeover of school boards, Intelligent Design (a.k.a., Creationism), an endless stream of legislation aimed at controlling what can and cannot be taught in public schools.... Hell, they've even gone after the Teletubbies and Sesame Street.

Whatever it takes to keep comprehensive knowledge and critical thinking to a minimum.
