White lead (basic lead carbonate) is a superior paint pigment---has a high affinity for paint vehicles and a tremendous hiding power. However, it has been widely replaced by Titanium oxide which is not as good and Barium-Zinc-Sulfur combinations which sucks.

For color, lead pigments such as red lead (a lead oxide with 4 oxygens and bright orange in color), and blue lead (lead sulfate with lead oxide, zinc oxide, and carbon) may be used industrially where corrosion protection and color on metal is needed. Lead chromates are often used to produce yellow, orange, red, and green paints. Litharge (a/k/a massicot, a/k/a lead monoxide) is a lead yellow pigment often used in glass or earthenware. Lead may be encountered in various glasses and glazes that may turn up in restoration projects. Lead flake still finds use as an exterior primer and lead oleate may be encountered as a drier in paints.

I now to paint my house and car more often because of the restrictions on lead paint.

Damn Environmentalists.

:sarcasm:

1. And that's not the worst of it. Goddam little delinquent kids
are getting smarter because they don't have lead in their neurons, and that is leading to all kinds of hell.

3. I tried lead paint chips on a dare when I was three
They were vaguely sweet and not worth the effort of rubbing the spider webs and dead leaves off on my jeans. As I recall, I didn't repeat the experience.

I don't think kids make a habit of it unless they're hungry.

However, I feel less confident having a garden (even if I could afford the extra water) because this is an old house and the yard is nicely contaminated by years of lead paint.

You can still get your favorite heavy metals pigments in oil and acrylic paints in art stores. It would be an expensive proposition to paint your house with them, though.

7. What I can't understand is why they think they can ban
radioactive materials. If I want to have a few radioactive materials over at my house, that is nobody's business but my own. Right? Right!
