"How to Maintain Your Mental Health in Tough Economic Times."
Edited on Sun Mar-15-09 06:25 PM by Mike 03
I don't know about you, but I'm really struggling with some issues and stresses right now. This article is not a miracle but it at least gives me a starting point to begin to create a plan, a schedule, a schematic: something I can hang onto.

I hope maybe it helps others. At the very least it validates our fears that this is a bad time.

MEDICAL NEWS TODAY:

One recent poll reported that nearly 60 percent of respondents said the current economic situation is a cause of stress in their lives. And one-quarter indicated that anxiety is serious.

"This is a terribly challenging time for many people," said David L. Shern, Ph.D., president and CEO of Mental Health America. "But there are things people can do to take care of themselves during stressful times such as leaning on the people who care about them and focusing on the positives in life."

Here are some simple steps people can take to protect their mental health.
Take a problem solving approach:

- Sit down and list your problems and some possible solutions. Weigh pros and cons, and once you have some possible solutions, break them into manageable chunks. This process not only can produce concrete answers, but offers a sense of organization and control at a time that may feel chaotic and confusing.

Shift your thinking:

- Review the skills and strengths that have helped you rise to challenges in the past. You can rely on those abilities again now. Try not to blame yourself for matters that may not have been in your control.

2. When money starts to become much more of an issue,
or lack of, I think we'll find people brewing their own. We'll go back to moonshine.

4. here's my 6 point plan
and I'm sticking to it, unless I win the lottery of course:

1. sell my home.
2. pay off my school debt and drop out. I no longer believe there will be a job at the end of this.
3. move to an area with much more moderate climate
4. downsize from house to shack w/ more land OR to a commune, if I can find the right one
5. grow a lot of my own food, herbal medicine & extras. I already do extensive organic herbal and vege gardening.
6. grow salva divinorum for emotional pain relief
7. write and sell low cost, how-to organic gardening and herbal med e-books with tips learned while volunteering at commercial organic farm, as well as standard info learned at master gardener program at county extension
