NASA Watch: Shuttle launches OK - Astronauts have trouble with "firewire" camera connection.

Shuttle launched more or less on time at right around 740PM Eastern time today.

I saw it launch from the Orlando area and have been following the mission so far on NASA-TV.

Just in case you ever felt "technically challenged" trying to download your video from YOUR camcorder to your laptop...

The astronauts aren't having any luck getting their camcorder that they use to record images of the TPS (thermal protection system) to their laptop computer tonight.

They are about to give up on it for the night and try a new firewire (IEEE-1394) cable and a different laptop tomorrow.

:patriot:

P.S.: The also seem to have misplaced the Japanese astronaut's toothbrush and food as best I can tell from the CAPOM conversation, they are trying to figure it out also.

4. Probably not... I would suspect it is one of the mil-spec certified
types at least if not specially certified for spaceflight.

Yes it is running Windows but probably Windows 2000 if I had to guess. NASA is pretty conservative and doesn't like to run with the latest and greatest.

The problem is most likely a bad or broken cable though.

6. I think Windows ME was the first version to support firewire
but it wasn't very reliable.

8. Took some photos from the end of my street tonight:

Even from 50 miles away you can see the rocket boosters separate from the shuttle:
