What should we learn from the fact that “The Daily Show’s” Jon Stewart has in four evenings (1 2 3 and 4) exposed Jim Cramer in a way that, in any sane world, he would have been exposed a decade ago? To answer that, consider these associated facts: while the Jim Cramer constellation of journalists (Mitchell’s Media Mob) backed each other up while covering-up the subject of criminally abusive short selling by hedge funds to whom they were close, four channels of the media broke rank:

Could the lesson be that the first news organizations that can break ranks with the Party Line are either fringe (”Rolling Out Magazine” and “The Daily Show”) or the properties of billionaires (Bloomberg and Forbes) who cannot be intimidated?

Perhaps someday, a journalist will look into the pressures that were brought on news organizations (e.g., on Bloomberg leading up to their running “Phantom Shares“). Just a few weeks ago I got the story, again, from a journalist: “I was working on a story about naked short selling and Deep Capture. Then, suddenly I was stopped. It’s weird because I have been a journalist here for 9 years. I have built a great reputation with my editor, and have never had a story interfered with. But I got a couple months into this story, and suddenly I was stopped from above. I’ve never seen that happen before.” I replied, If you only knew how many times a journalist has said that to me in the last couple years….

The dimensions of the actual problem are so large--in the trillions or 10s of trillions--that you can't begin to wrap your head around it, so everybody gets excited about the window dressing.

Which brings us back to the whole point of Deep Capture. Sharks, Chandra Levy and Michelle's bare arms.

It is impossible to overstate the effect that these characters have had on our public discourse. It is not just that they have propagated a style of “journalism” that sees short-term stock flipping (rather than long-term investment) as the holiest of all business endeavors. It is that close associates of Herb and Cramer have seized control of a vast swath of the American financial media. Indeed, if you have seen a negative story about a public company in recent years, the odds are greater than even that it was written by a friend-of-Cramer.

Many of Cramer’s friends are former employees of TheStreet.com, a financial news website substantially owned by Cramer. They have included the editor and top columnists for The Wall Street Journal “Money & Investing” section, top business writers for The New York Times, reporters at Fortune magazine and BusinessWeek, the editor of The New York Post business page, the editor of MSN Money, and others. Herb, a CNBC commentator and a star columnist for MarketWatch.com, was among the founding editors of TheStreet.com - “Murderers Row,” they called themselves.

I have analyzed well over a thousand stories written by this clique of journalists. The vast majority of them were sourced from a small group of short-sellers who are also friends of Cramer. Other popular sources for this group of journalists include convicted felons, mobsters, dubious private investigators, crooked lawyers, hired stock bashers, and gun-toting goons - most of whom are tied to the Cramer constellation of short-sellers.

Some of the stories written by these reporters are accurate enough. But many are not. The journalists misconstrue data with seemingly purposeful intent. They exaggerate and obfuscate. They publish innuendo or merely repeat, Deus Optimus Maximus, the words of their hedge fund and criminal friends.A single negative story by one of these reporter-thugs can send a company’s stock tumbling by more than 50% — pure profit for their hedge fund sources, who of course sell the company short (often right before the articles are published). Meanwhile, an overwhelming majority of the companies targeted by these journalists will also be the victims of phantom stock selling and other shenanigans. The journalists do not mention this in their stories, and in fact go out of their way to deny that phantom stock exists.

Anyone who says otherwise is subjected to a vicious media smear.

at all. I suggest you read it all first, then make up your mind. He is very lucid, and has links to all that he reports on, from a first-person context of what *they* did to his corporation and stock. Admittedly, it did take me 2 days to read it all. Suggest Byrne first, then the Mitchell report (which is hyperbolic, and maybe what you are thinking of?).

I think most business owners were automatically Republicans because they were fooled into believing their party was more conducive to the business world's needs. I doubt Byrne would call himself a republican today.

I've pretty much read all of DeepCapture's website and it's a fascinating read. I posted a thread here and on Daily Kos yesterday...had a great response on Daily Kos...it dropped like a rock here. I highly recommend everyone watch the first video link I posted called Phantom Shares. Bloomberg News did a documentary on naked short selling and Byrne was featured in it. It was done in a way the average citizen can understand.

arranged and gave us a monetary coup with more profit for their in-group. It makes more sense.
