3. Can I be your lovely assistant?
My mother worked in the Sec. of War's office, and that became the Sec. of Army.

She knew Eisenhower, Bradley, etc.

4. Uncoincidentally, I'm going to work for the Secretary of the Navy
In the White House and Congressional Liaison office. Now I know how I got these orders. I am excited with the prospect of meeting a lot of people. And, one of the job requirements is planning events for the Army-Navy game. Maybe I can sit with Obama!!

7. Which historic naval vessel?
Is it the submarine in the photo of your first post?

Which boat is that?

My father was career Navy and I served 6 years -- was stationed onboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.

8. Which vessel?
That does not sound like a lot of fun to me, but I have spent a lot of M-F getting grubby on a ship that should have been decommissioned.

9. Just about the last of the BALAO class prior to TENCH.
USS SEA ROBIN in '63.

And the USN really did paint BALAO pink for the movie:

12. Not quite. The fastest boat outta Groton when decommissioned.
TIRU and TIGRONE lasted a few years more.

TANG, TROUT, TRIGGER were in commission until the '80s.

Now, there are two TENCH class boats still operating for Taiwan. Evidently, they're in great condition.

USS CUTLASS - aka 'cuteass' longest continuously serving submarine EVER:
