'Seattle P-I' to Go Web-Only After Tomorrow
By E&P Staff and The Associated Press

SEATTLE - Seattle will be a one-newspaper town after Tuesday, when the 146-year-old Seattle Post-Intelligencer prints its last edition.

The P-I will continue to live on the Internet with a much smaller staff.

Parent company Hearst Corp. says it has failed to find a buyer for the newspaper, which it put up for sale in January after nine years of financial losses.

The end of the print edition leaves The Seattle Times as the only major daily in the city.

The announcement comes about two weeks after Denver's Rocky Mountain News published its final edition.

Seattle P-I Editor and Publisher Roger Oglesby addressed staff in the newsroom Monday morning. Here are his remarks, and then a statement from Seattle Times publisher Frank Blethen. ........(more)

1. I find the demise of any newspaper very sad,but I'm afraid there
will be lots more.

I have been starting my day with The Boston Globe for many, many years and can't imagine not reading it while having my coffee.

2. Rocky Mountain News folded two weeks ago.
I still mourn for their demise. I hate Denver Post because they don't have the tabloid style that I grew up with.

Well, movin' on. The 'Net's better than eating trees for paper.
