Poll question: What is required to enjoy private health care
Edited on Tue Mar-17-09 06:30 AM by ck4829
Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., said Saturday he is concerned the federal government's proposed healthcare plan could significantly disrupt private coverage.

Blunt, according to a Republican National Committee transcript, said during the weekly GOP address that the healthcare plan being considered in Washington could result in some U.S. workers losing access to healthcare coverage from their employers.

"I'm concerned that if the government steps in it will eventually push out the private healthcare plans that millions of Americans enjoy today," Blunt said.

Really now, what does one actually need to "enjoy" private health care?

3. Be an executive at a major corporation.

Special health care for life.. I personally have witnessed: the existence of an 'executive floor' at the hospital. Waiver of a $20,000 bill for a person who went to a hospital (non-emergency situation) that wasn't on the approved provider list. Zero waiting time in the doctor's office.

And I've read about (in the Wall Street Journal) the day-at-a-spa approach, where executives can check into a fancy room and get every screening and preventive test etc necessary or desirable all in a day, to save time and for maximum convenience.

The waiver of the $20K bill was the most amazing. Had the individual been a poor or middle-class worker, he would have been stuck with a bill that would have taken years to pay off. What are the chances that persistence would have gotten his insurance company to cover it when it was out-of-network? As a well-off executive (who could have written a check for it right then and there), he made one phone call and the bill evaporated.

5. I love my private coverage
Sure I pay out the ass but have a $15 copay and $10 prescriptions. No bill has ever been over $300 and that was for my sons birth which is a set rate by BCBS through my plan.

The consideration that is on the table is McCain's campaign plan. Tax employee benefits which means my coverage payment would come out after taxes instead of before. I'd be taxed on an additional $8500 per year which would hurt, badly, and I've been looking at changing my plan anyways to bring down the payments. This will hurt a lot of people.

6. Disrupting private coverage would be a godsend.
Those thieving bastards challenge every claim.

(Do we really think, however, that a government run system would be better? :scared: )
