1. And
lie and hate daily on the public airwaves while pretending to not understand the recent reinterest in the fairness doctrine.

4. I was laughing at that just this morning!
They have to turn everything into liberals being against them and causing them harm somehow. Their ratings are in the crapper, so obviously their shows are being yanked because of the liberals and that damn fairness doctrine!

2. Exactly! Why is it so okay to bail out these banking institutions but when it comes to the auto
industry where thousands of blue collar jobs (union, too), it's wrong?

3. I have said, if you want to help the workers don't
give money to the corporation. Give the money to the workers.
"We" are not putting GM & Chrysler into bankruptcy. It is the corporations, and their multi-millionaire chiefs that are doing that.
Ford has decided to hold their own. Most noble, and what they (GM & Chrysler) should do too.
But no one ever listens to me.

7. But but but...
10% of the cost of an automobile is due to workers' salaries and benefits! 10%!!!

If we could force them to work FOR FREE (slave labor? Now that's an idea) then our cars would be 10% cheaper!!!!

9. fairness doctrine?
I have a question, why do so many people want the fairness doctrine reinstated?
1st amendment provides for free speech, how in the world can any one in DU think that getting the FCC to determine what is conservative and what is liberal and making them be 50/50, be a good idea? If people wanna listen to Rush, Hannity, or any of those other losers; who cares? As soon as the government controls what we listen to, its all over... The government should have no governance over what people listen to. Also who is going to be deciding what is conservative and what is liberal, some jackass that shouldn't be. If NPR wants to get better ratings they need to get controversial people on their airwaves, and stop talking monotone, and stop with the damn violin music. I'm a big liberal, always have been, but just people your radio shows are flat boring compared to the other guy, it doesn't mean the government needs to come in and fix it. Rant finished =)

12. westcor.....
There are very good reasons to have it reinstated. A better idea, though, might be to have them cut apart into little companies. One of the main problems, right now, is that a select few own most of the media and those owners are right leaning and make sure much, if not all, of their material is right-wing talking points.

This is not a left or a right issue. It is an issue where people are only hearing one side of a subject and that is a very slanted side. You can not make informed decisions or have informed ideas if you are not getting the whole story.

As for not wanting the governments hands in it I understand what your concerns are but keep in mind we have had this before and the earth did not come to an end. In fact, many people were much more educated about all sides to an issue.

People may like to hear Hannity and the others but some people are not even aware they are not getting the full information. If people are voting then they should be fully informed about all issues.

Another good reason for wanting it is the news media itself. A few years ago one of the heads of NBS came out with a statement saying that they are owned by GE and have an obligation to their shareholders rather than the viewers. Basically he was saying they would down play the illegal occupation of Iraq (and anything else they needed to) because GE is so involved with the war machine. If the Fairness Doctrine came back companies would have to report the different sides instead of media corporations worshiping at the altar of the almighty dollar no matter the cost to the American people.

So, putting the right wing personalities aside, it should scare you and make you mad that the media does not care about us and will spin or hide information as they see fit so that their shareholders will be happy.

You see, I understand a corporation out to make money. That is what it does. The government is supposed to keep them in check because their loyalties are supposed to lie with the people of the country and doing what is best for them. Since corporations can not be relied upon to do what is right, regulation is very much needed in all areas including banking and other industries.

Hope that answers your question.

15. We do not have free speech. Speech is very expensive. Media outlets are owned by the rich.
They get to speak via the MSM and we don't. That isn't free speech. The fairness doctrine isn't the best. but until we come up with something better, it will do. The current system is enslaving us.
