Democrats who refuse to be named as Blue Dogs... rather cowardly.
I have been looking all over the internet for the names of the supposed 15 Blue Dogs in Evan Bayh's group.

Evan Bayh refused to give the names out on TV today. He just thought he was so cute and funny. Has he actually forgotten that they work for us?

It is cowardly to refuse to own up and give your name out when you join a group like this. If you join a group you should do it with pride, and state your name clearly and loudly.

Video:

Evan Bayh's secret Blue Dogs

Here is more from Think Progress on the topic. Still looking for all those names Bayh said were on the press release.

Moderate’ Senate Democrats to formally announce formation of Blue Dog-style coalition.

Roll Call reports that a group of 15-20 “moderate” Senate Democrats — boosted by their success in “paring down the more than $900 billion economic stimulus bill to $787 billion” — plans to “formally announce next week that it is aligning as a loose coalition or working group focused on deficit reduction and fiscal responsibility”:

Led by Sens. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.), Tom Carper (D-Del.) and Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), members said early press reports of their meetings were mischaracterized as an opposition group to President Barack Obama’s agenda and budget. But they acknowledge that they are seeking to restrain the influence of party liberals in the White House and on Capitol Hill....

Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson said the moderate bloc is modeled after the Blue Dogs, but that the realities of the Senate prevent them from being as organized or unified as the House group, which regularly wins concessions from House Democratic leaders.

But as one anonymous Democratic senator told Roll Call, “Once you decide to be part of a bloc that is completely dislocated from the main Democratic caucus interests, you’ve not only separated yourself, you’ve also burned a lot of bridges.” Politico previously explained the possible implications of such a group, writing, “If the moderate Democrats in the Senate are willing to work with moderate Republicans…they will negate the White House’s ability to portray opposition…as partisan obstructionism.”

A few others are named in other articles.

Dem 'Centrists' Plot To Push Back On Obama Agenda

A bloc of Senate Democratic moderates is quietly maneuvering to keep open the option of vetoing two of President Barack Obama's most ambitious agenda items this year -- climate change and health care reform.

Eight Democrats who want to water down new climate change legislation have already joined with Republicans and signed a letter opposing any attempt to use fast-track budget rules to prevent filibusters. Many of the same Democrats also oppose using those budget rules to prevent filibusters of health care legislation.

.."Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) and Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) are among the eight Democrats who signed the letter opposing reconciliation. Republicans are on their side, claiming the move would break Obama's bipartisan pledge.

"That's absolutely a concern of a lot of people," Lincoln said. "We need everyone in the room. It needs to be done in a bipartisan way."

Open Left has part of the article from Roll Call which indicates that other Third Way folks may be involved.

Evan Bayh Forming Blue Dog Caucus in the Senate

Additionally, Bayh envisions inviting outside speakers to address the group, which would also work in concert with third parties that have similar viewpoints, like the Third Way, a nonpartisan progressive think tank.

A Reid spokesman said the Majority Leader was similarly upbeat about the idea.

"Nearly a decade of Republican fiscal irresponsibility has contributed to our current economic crisis," Reid spokesman Jim Manley said in an e-mail statement. "That is why Sen. Reid welcomes Sen. Bayh's decision to form this group. For we know that Sen. Bayh, like all Democrats, is committed to restoring our nation's fiscal and economic health."

Over the past three weeks, Bayh and his staff have reached out to Senators to judge the appetite for such a group.

"I've had some expressions of interest," Bayh said. "I'm going to continue to meet and talk to my colleagues."

Likely targets for Bayh would include moderate Democrats like Sens. Mark Pryor (Ark.), Blanche Lincoln (Ark.), Mary Landrieu (La.), Ben Nelson (Neb.), Jim Webb (Va.), and Sen.-elect Mark Warner (Va.).

The Minnesota Independent suspects that Amy Klobuchar may be joining them.

Klobuchar to join Senate ‘Blue Dog’ Dems?

U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar met with 13 moderate and conservative Democrats and independent Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut on Tuesday as part of a group formed by Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., and based “loosely on the House Blue Dog Coalition.”

The new coalition is concerned with proposed tax hikes and spending. Klobuchar’s office said she is working to make sure any spending is fiscally responsible.

Politico reports that many in the meeting were dissatisfied with President Obama’s proposed budget, particularly tax increases on the wealthy.

Bayh, the founder of the new group of senators, said, “I do think that before we raise revenue, we first should look to see if there are ways we can cut back on spending.”

“The American people and businesses are tightening their belts,” Bayh added. “I think we need to show that the government can economize as well.”

The group is committed to working with moderate Republicans on a variety of issues.

I am going to keep searching for these names.

They work for us. We put them in office. They should reveal the groups to which they belong.

1. By their fruits shall ye know them
Let's just assume that anyone on the D side of the aisle who votes with Bayh against the interests of the working folks of the country and in favor of the robber barons is a blue dog. Then, politely (always politely) take the appropriate action informing them exactly whereon the butter lies on their piece of bread.

For once I agree with Killer Joe when he said that these Democrats should be called the "Morning Joe Democrats". Yes, how appropriate.

one that I have asked twice now and have gotten no response on - how does being in the majority help when there is a group of conservative dems who will vote more ideologically and in line with the Republicans? Doesn't that blow a substantial proof vote if Franken is seated?

48. That's the whole point.
59 or even 60 "Democrats" is an illusion when you have at least a dozen treasonous sellouts on board. We can't even get an actual majority of 51 votes with that many turncoats. And if we did, Spineless Reid wouldn't care anyway.

Franken's biggest obstacle is Norm Coleman's delusional ego. His vote really won't make much of a difference as long as the games of the DLC/Blueballs crowd are tolerated.

And as for the calls to get someone like Arlen "magic bullet" Specter as vote 60, fuck that. Last thing we need is another fake Democrat, let alone someone who helped cover up the biggest crime of the 20th century. I don't disagree with Thom Hartmann very often, but he's out to lunch on that one.

attention and they don't give a fat rat's ass what we think.

A phone call to Hagel's office (and even that current republican fuck Johanns) got you a letter in response to your call. They asked who was calling and they got your address and phone number. Nelson's office doesn't even bother.

It's a waste of time really, but if the effort is not made, then we are just as bad as that republican in democrat's clothing (and a really bad 'do').

23. More about Shaheen...could be.
"SHAHEEN THE CENTRIST? A Congressional Quarterly story this week contends Democrat Jeanne Shaheen is part of a "centrist" coalition in the U.S. Senate that's "forcing congressional leaders to moderate the majority's liberal agenda."

It reports that Shaheen was among 15 senators who met with Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh last week to "plot their strategy."

Problem is, Shaheen voted for the $410 billion omnibus spending bill this week, while Bayh did not. With the notable exception of the original TARP bill, she has backed President Barack Obama and the Democratic leadership since taking office.

Shaheen spokesman Alex Reese said his boss "looks at every bill on a case-by-case basis and casts her vote based on what she thinks is best for New Hampshire."

49. It's entirely likely.
Here in New Hampshire, when Shaheen was Governor, the then-Republican
State House handed her the repeal of the death penalty and she vetoed it.
I've been assured by people "in the know" that this was not a dirty trick
to try and make Shaheen look "too liberal to run for the U.S. Senate", that
this was a well-intended attempt to actually repeal our death penalty.

But Shaheen made a political calculation and vetoed it. She still lost her
Senate race that year and New Hampshire lost an opportunity that's
unlikely to come again for quite a while, although we're still working
on it.

112. Webb spoke out against the Iraq fiasco before the mess even started
Using his position as former Secretary of the Navy, Webb cogently and intelligently warned the administration (and the nation) of all that now has come to pass.

Jim Webb believes very strongly that we should use our armed forces only in rare cases and not preemptively and he is very vocal about this both verbally and in articles and opinions pieces that he himself (an outstanding writer) writes.

Webb has been exceedingly active as a first term senator. he got the veterans bill of rights passed and he is holding meeting on our corrections shame to try to get new laws passed that would in the long ran reduce recidivism.

Webb also is a strong voice for the poor and disenfranchised, having even written a book on this subject.

While Jim is not a liberal on all issues, he is intelligent, thoughtful, fair, and honest. He refused to take any money during his hard fought campaign from any special interests or lobbyists. In fact, his has been a forceful and eloquent voice against the undue influence of lobbyists and special interest groups in the political process.

Jim would also not accept any donations from those he felt lacked the means to spare the few dollars they had sent his campaign.

Jim would make a great president except that he doesn't like to sit and talk small talk and is uncomfortable with the whole campaign process.

In fact, Jim started out in life as a Democrat then changed parties because he felt that the Republicans were more fiscally responsible (I hope that I am remembering his reason correctly). Jim then changed back to being a Democrat because the Republicans were so fiscally irresponsible and because he felt so strongly that the Republicans were to ready to gsend our troops off to fight for no good military reason.

teh dem party needs to ducate them and point this out to them by analyzing the GOP talking points being laundered through those stations and correlating them to the 'popular' citizens feedback they get on these issues. show them how they are limbaugh's buttboys.

26. I figured as much - something stinks about this whole issue
Makes me really wonder whats going on with the economic & financial side of the Obama administration.

Think of it this way - Obama has been doing some awesome things in all of the other key issues of our day not relating to the economy. However, he's surrounded himself with the very same people that contributed to this mess in the economy and are fighting to keep things the way they are. Geithner, Summers, etc.

Now this. It's almost as if the corporatist interests are stepping in to make sure Obama doesn't sway far from the course that they are comfortable with.

27. More on Begich, Udall, McCaskill...CQ Quarterly.
"With that in mind, Bayh convened a meeting of about 15 Democratic centrists last week to plot their strategy. They hope to extend a string of recent triumphs, such as the success of self-described New Democrat Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Collins to slice $108 billion from the $787 billion economic stimulus package (PL 111-5).

In the Senate, the loose coalition includes a half-dozen freshmen such as Mark Udall of Colorado, Mark Begich of Alaska, Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire and several Democrats elected in 2006, including Claire McCaskill of Missouri."

Getting tired of seeing Democrats we donated to go with such groups. No more donations.

Half a dozen freshman, than would be Udall, Begich, Shaheen...I think Bennet and Warner were mentioned, possibly Gillibrand, that would be six. The other freshman would be Tom Udall, Kay Hagan and Jeff Merkley.

Please tell me you have not betrayed everyone that voted for you! I voted for a strong Democratic Senate candidate, not a traitor republican in Dems clothing. You were a strong supporter of health care reform, that was one of the main reasons I voted for you. How dare you go against that now. 28. McCaskill says Obama has all but given the green light...
Leftists are left in the cold not just by Blue Dogs, but by New Dems as well...they are seeing a revival in the administration.

http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docID=news-000003070261&parm1=5&cpage=2

"The New Democrats’ revival on Capitol Hill coincides with changes at the Democratic Leadership Council — a New Democrat support group — where founder Al From announced plans to retire last week. His successor, Bruce Reed, was a top aide in the Clinton administration.

Tauscher links her group’s clout to its growing footprint. “Our new members beat Republicans. They’re tech-savvy, pragmatic and moderate. They come from swing districts all over the country. They have diverse interests,” she said.

Obama has all but given the green light to revolts by the New Democrats that pare down spending bills and win GOP defectors, McCaskill said.

To serve as emissaries to the centrist wing, Obama has hired New Democrats: Rahm Emanuel , his chief of staff; Interior Secretary Ken Salazar ; and Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius , his nominee to head the Department of Health and Human Services."

They are f'in corporatists!

All of these terms such as "centrist", "moderate", "bipartisan", etc. are just marketing speak to get fools to vote for them, when they only really serve the interests of the small miniscule set of people that fund their campaigns...

They should be forced to either switch to serving the people's interests, or find out whether those paying them can actually vote them in. They know the latter is impossible without others' help. Which is why they're always so disingenuous about why they serve their corporate masters...

53. No, but at the very least it is now a swing state
Whereas before it was dark dark red. Obama's organization registered half a million new voters in Indiana. Without the economy and maybe if McCain had run a better campaign, Obama would've lost the state by a few points. But that's nothing compared to the double digits that Democrats lost Indiana by.

Obama turned Indiana drastically more blue than it was before and Evan Bayh repays the favor by sprinting to the center. Who the hell is he worried about challenging him, anyway? His last two elections have been incredibly easy.

Since he's not officially a Dem. And then one article said half a dozen freshmen and you have 4, so maybe discounting Lieberman, you could have Gillibrand and then maybe another freshman or somebody like Baucus. I did see Lieberman mentioned maybe they just count him anyway because he caucuses with them. While Baucus is fairly conservative, these days anyway, he does tend to keep a lower profile, so I would say Gillibrand would be my top guess for that last slot.

Not only wouldn't he talk to us in person, he doesn't respond to letters or emails, his voice mail won't let a person leave a message, he's just unreachable. After almost three years, we finally went to his office and had to get arrested before he'd finally agree to a meeting. We made sure it was PUBLIC, everyone was invited. And we asked him then to promise to come back in six months and he did promise. But he didn't come back and he still won't respond. I am ashamed to be represented by that man, I truly am.

in one post or the other here.

They are just plain chicken. And yes to the person who called Bill Nelson's office....of course the hell they knew...they lie all the time.

I hate groups like this so much. They make the left sound like it stands for nothing.

http://thinkprogress.org/2009/03/18/bayhs-four-secret-sens/

"This morning on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) discussed the creation of a new group of “moderate” Democratic senators whose goal is to “restrain the influence of party liberals.” MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell explained the implications of Bayh’s new group, saying “this is the group that will control the outcome politically on what can pass on the Senate floor.”

Bayh explained that his office would be issuing a press release detailing the group and its 15 inaugural members. This press release is now available and explains that the group is “will meet every other Tuesday before the Democratic Caucus lunch to discuss legislative strategies and ideas”:
The Moderate Dems are joined by a shared commitment to pursue pragmatic, fiscally sustainable policies across a range of issues, such as deficit containment, health care reform, the housing crisis, educational reform, energy policy and climate change.

In addition to Bayh, Sens. Tom Carper (D-DE) and Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) will lead the group. Other members include: Sens. Mark Udall (D-CO), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Mark Begich (D-AK), Kay Hagan (D-NC), Herb Kohl (D-WI), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Joe Lieberman (I-CT), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Ben Nelson (D-NE), Bill Nelson (D-FL), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), and Mark Warner (D-VA).

More on the Witness Protection List three:

"But Bayh also told MSNBC this morning that there are “three or four” members in what he called the “Witness Protection Program.” These members, Bayh explained, are currently attending the group’s meetings but do not wish to be “publicly identified.” Based on press reports, however, ThinkProgress has compiled a list of who might be the three anonymous “moderates.” The following members have been reported as attending Bayh’s meetings in recent weeks, but are not named in today’s press release:

– Sen. Robert P. Casey Jr. (D-PA)
– Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN)
– Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR)

I sure that I will be torn apart for expressing this opinion, but I thought the notion behind a congressional model was that the elected Representatives advocated for their constituents. These Senators must believe that they are representing the view point of those who elected them. If we cease to have open debate and disagreements about the direction of our nation, we are no longer a democracy. Just a thought. Open fire!

65. I have the complete List HERE!!!!!!
I pulled this from Sen. Udall's website:

Moderate Senate Democrats Launch New Group to Shape Public Policy

snip

Leading the new group are Democratic Senators Evan Bayh of Indiana, Tom Carper of Delaware and Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas. Both Senators Bayh and Carper were successful governors before coming to the Senate, and both are past leaders of the centrist Democratic Leadership Council. Senators Lincoln and Carper bring bicameral experience to the group as former members of the House of Representatives. All three leaders are honorary co-chairs of Third Way, a progressive Democratic policy group.

Others joining the group are Senators Mark Udall and Michael Bennet of Colorado, Mark Begich of Alaska, Kay Hagan of North Carolina, Herb Kohl of Wisconsin, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Bill Nelson of Florida, Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, and Mark Warner of Virginia.

http://markudall.senate.gov/record.cfm?id=309996&

P.S. I already emailed Udall and discussed in great detail my disappointment in his choice! I am off to email the others now!!!!

Bayh, the founder of the new group of senators, said, “I do think that before we raise revenue, we first should look to see if there are ways we can cut back on spending.”

With an expected $2 trillion drop in private-sector economic demand, now is the time for the government to spend more, not less. Cutting government spending now will push us deeper into this recession/depression.

What kind of moron is this guy? Why is he a Democrat? Who bought him off? Why the hell should I have to listen to Republican insanity from an alleged Democrat?

Reid and Pelosi need to bury these people ... no committee chairmanships, no relevant committee appointments, the worst offices available, meetings in the basement closet. The American people can't afford this nonsense right now. They elected a Democratic government because something needs to be done about the massive problems we face. We do not need more obstruction. That's what Republicans are for.

I intend to go to Rochester (or wherever the state convention is next time she is up) and vote for someone else to get the nomination. Can you say caucus/primary challenge?

Sorry, read that too quickly ---

Randi was on my mind and I'm thinking about how happy the right-wing must be that she's

essentially been off the air since the financial house of cards fell!!!

Also, love Rachel Maddow -- and good of her to get this info out!

Please call Warner and let him know that Americans voted for change. He needs to support the President, not big business. We didn't vote for another LIEberman-repukelite.

91. Why don't they just call themselves
what they are....? Fucking Republican Lites! Evan can kiss my ass.

I am amazed they want to call themselves something that originated in the House...the House is so beneath the Senate....after all the Senate even gets better toilet paper (as told to me by one of the Guards at Congress).

I think I'll write these dogs a letter.

93. More taxpayer money down the rat hole
Why do they need to form separate "groups"? They'll be meeting separately, taking minutes of the meetings, recording their voices for posterity, publishing anonymous leaks to the press etc. all at taxpayer expense.

We voted them into a really big group called Congress. Why can't they spend their time talking, meeting, discussing, researching, recording and pontificating there? The more time they spend at being Congress-bobbles the less it will cost us financially and (gasp) they might actually get something worthwhile accomplished bi-partisan & bi-cameral.

If they wanted to join "clubs" what the hell did they run for Congress for? And to answer your point, yes I think they're complete cowards if they don't at least publicize their back-stabbing members list & agenda.

120. how pathetic and sad....
I sent this letter to Mark Udall as soon as I saw his name listed on here....

Proof:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

My letter to Mark Udall:

Please tell me you have not betrayed everyone that voted for you! I voted for a strong Democratic Senate candidate, not a traitor republican in Dems clothing. You were a strong supporter of health care reform, that was one of the main reasons I voted for you. How dare you go against that now. Do not participate in this group with Evan Bayh of failing Senators, you work for me, you work for the people of Colorado, do not betray us like this, I will never vote for you again.

How dare you call yourselves Democrats? I am crushed that there are two people from my state being found on your list of traitors.
I would have never voted for them or any of you had I known you were going to be a bunch of turn-coats.
Have you all forgotten that we, the American people are your bosses?

We voted for you to help support President Obama and the issues that we wanted him to address, the problems we wanted him to fix,
with your help.
Now, you go against everything that I was wanting to see changed, and want to give more of a voice to the Republicans.
Go run on a Republican ticket, you are not Democrats, you are not the people I voted for,
you are not representing your constituents.
You are failing and I will not vote for any of you next election.
