So eager to deploy soldiers on American soil:

Army reviews troop use after fatal Ala. shootings

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The Army said Wednesday it opened an inquiry into whether federal laws were broken when nearly two dozen soldiers were sent to a south Alabama town after 11 people died in a shooting spree last week.

State officials said the deployment of 22 military police officers and the provost marshal from Fort Rucker was requested neither by Republican Gov. Bob Riley nor the White House, which typically is required by law for soldiers to operate on U.S. soil.

I've only had one semester of Constitutional Law but I'm pretty sure there's a violation here. Too bad no one is responsible, guess those soldiers just woke up and said, "hey, lets deploy!"

1. There definitely was a law broken... Posse Comitatus Act and this is another...
Federal law that the Bush Administration just disregarded at will.

2. Some PFC oughtta hang for this one.
Maybe even an E-4 or a buck sgt, although that's getting dangerously high in the chain of command.

4. Drug Cartel Violence
This incident involved the drug cartel. Automatic firearm violence is not just for border towns anymore. The sad fact is that the police in the US are outgunned by the drug cartel. It is a violation. My guess is that the police needed assistance. If it comes between troops or the violent drug cartel, I'll take my chances with the troops.

When we are afraid, it is best to dispense with the Constitution and the law.

9. The police are outgunned? What part of the world do you live in?
Have you ever seen the inside of a local police armory?

7. Why didn't they use the National Guard instead?
Edited on Wed Mar-18-09 06:02 PM by Incitatus
Not that that was even necessary, but it would better than the Army.

8. Not good. Low resistance to such deployments will be viewed as approval or worse...
acquiescence
