When did the spelling of "Oops" get changed to "Opps"? Did I miss something?
I see so many people posting something that says "Opps" and I wonder what operation they are talking about. I swear I've seen this spelling about 20 times in the last two weeks alone.
Did I miss something?? What gives?
I'm serious..I've seen it so much I'm really beginning to wonder!!

6. Don't you mean 'When did TEH spelling of "Oops" get changed to "Opps"'?
I've been wondering about "teh" as well -- that, as well as "definately" for "definitely", and "loose" for "lose". I suppose we have no one to blame but ourselves for letting some people use the computer.

8. No official change. Just a lot of bad spellers out there.
And a lot of bilingual and multilingual people venturing into the murky waters of English, god bless them all. But I always do a double-take on 'opps' too. I know what they mean but phonetically it doesn't even work. Why not eueps? Crazy English. Too many exceptions to the rule.

20. The non-native English speaking thing....
When I see really bad spelling or grammar, that's what I tell myself...it must be someone whose native language is NOT English, and I should cut the person some slack.

English is a difficult language, what with all the inconsistencies.

But for people I KNOW have spoken English since childhood...born and raised right here in the USA...it just makes me clench my teeth and feel pity and shame and annoyance.

I mean, people don't need to be literary masters, but at least know the difference between words like "their", "there", and "they're".

Or "two", "too", and "to"

They must not be teaching that stuff in the sixth grade anymore.

9. Sometimes you have to wait and see if it's a Freeperism you've missed.
Eventually they will misspell every commonly used word and we will look as stupid as they are.

10. That's precisely what it is
"Opps" has the same origin as "moran", "hugh", and "series".

18. One that still messes with my head
and it's not even really the misspelling of a word.

The word "drug" used as the past tense of "drag".

As in: "We drug him around through the mudhole a few times".

I wondered if I missed something in English class all those years ago, so I actually looked it up in a dictionary.

Yep...there it was, listed in all its glory, although of relatively recent usage. Personally, I hate it, but I suppose I'll have to get used to hearing it more and more.
