"Rachel and her Children: Homeless Families in America"
I know we are living in difficult, even ruthless times. It's hard to get by, let alone think of helping others.

Sometimes when I need a transfusion of compassion, I re-read the most poignant book I've ever read (and trust me, I have read thousands of books).

It's called "Rachel and her Children: Homeless Families in America." It is by the author Jonathan Kozol, who has written a number of classics about children, education and poverty.

Tonight I pulled a copy of this book off my shelf because I'm feeling the need to put things in perspective about how fortunate I am compared to so many others, and how much we who are able to can do for our fellow human beings who are in dire straits right now.

Trust me on this one. Check this book out if you can find it, and buy a ton of tissues when you do because it will rip your heart apart.

Thank god for Jonathan Kozol and his exposure of how so many Americans live.

Even though "Rachel and Her Children" was written in 1988, it is more timely than you can even believe.

3. Things have not changed much.
The Reagan Revolution has been going on for about 30 years now.

Thank you for the reading rec. :)
