I find this very heartwarming and frankly, illuminating:

Champion Special Olympics bowler Kolan McConiughey challenges Obama after the president's "Tonight Show" remark
by Jo Mathis | The Ann Arbor News
Friday March 20, 2009, 1:51 PM

OK, Mr. President. You think your pitiful bowling skills are something you'd see at the Special Olympics?

An Ann Arbor man has a challenge for you.

"Bring it on, Obama!" says Kolan McConiughey, who is proud of the six Special Olympics bowling medals he's won as well as the fact that he's bowled five perfect games. "I challenge him! I'll show him how to do it."

McConiughey, who was born cognitively impaired, was profiled in The Ann Arbor News on his 35th birthday on Christmas Day. SInce then, his story has been picked up in other news media.

As the media descended on him Friday morning at his favorite bowling alley - Colonial Lanes Bowling Center - McConiughey switched from his denim Busch's shirt to one from the Special Olympics, then donned a couple medals, took out his bowling ball and walked to a lane.

Then he threw strike after strike and a few spares as well, impressing the crew from "Inside Edition."

1. Bowling alleys must be loving this.
I love that story. I hope Obama can spin this to a boost and some much-needed good pubicity for the Special Olympics.

5. I wish he'd teach me how to bowl.
I'm lucky to get past 70.

I love this because I knew this would end up giving the Special Olympics a lot of well-deserved publicity. If W turned gold into shit, President Obama is showing that he might just be able to do the opposite, LOL.

7. Make sure you drop your ball on the third diamond on the right..Voila
you will either strike or set up a good spare. If your spare is to the left, move over one diamond..

6. Obama Deserves to be Called Out on This
I realize it was a gaffe, he didn't mean anything cruel by it and there was no pause or gasp at the time. It's really the kind of thing a lot of us say and don't really think about it. Well, maybe we should. So, if his gaffe can make us all a little more sensitive, that's a good thing. If it can call attention to the challenges and triumphs of those who are impaired, so much the better.
