Pope's poll numbers plunge in (heavily Catholic) France
I wonder if the catholic church's response to the 9 year old rape victim having an abortion (they excomunicated the mother and doctors) has anything to do with these poll numbers

Pope's poll numbers plunge in France

Pope Benedict XVI celebrates a special mass for the sick in front of the Basilica of the Rosary, in Lourdes, France on Sept. 15, 2008.

PARIS (AP) — A newspaper poll shows Pope Benedict XVI's popularity has plunged in heavily Roman Catholic France.

Le Parisien daily says its survey found 57% of respondents have a negative opinion of the pontiff. That's up from only 25% in a similar poll shortly before his visit to France last September.

Twenty-three percent expressed a positive opinion, down from 53% six months ago. The remainder had no opinion.

The survey of 1,012 adults was conducted Wednesday and Thursday, and published Saturday. It gave no margin of error.

The pope drew criticism from some Western governments for saying Tuesday during a flight to Africa that condoms were not the answer to the continent's AIDS epidemic, suggesting that sexual behavior was the issue.

6. Why does the pope care about poll numbers?
It's not like he's going anywhere.

7. The French are sensible people who know he should have
kept his mouth shut about matters he is not equipped to interfere in. They've always been stunningly good at ignoring him in all matters regarding reproduction, considering the source of his opinion lies in ancient texts instead of modern science or the realities of life.

9. The decline in the Pope's popularity is not so much attributed to
the far more (admirably) progressive sensibilities of French Catholics as to his own stumble-bum hypocracies.

He owes the people of the continent of Africa an apology, just for starters.

And I'm still waiting on a good excuse for why women cannot be ordained.
