Report: MSNBC ‘in discussions’ with Ed Schultz for ‘full-time’ job.
The New York Observer reports that “MSNBC president Phil Griffin is in discussions with syndicated talk radio host Ed Schultz about possibly joining the network on a full-time basis.” The Observer says it is “unclear what exactly the job would entail” if they reach an agreement, but notes that it has been speculated that Schultz is being considered as a possible host of his own show:

When reached by phone on Friday morning, Mr. Schultz also denied that Mr. Griffin had made him an offer. He said that he had received some kind words from MSNBC management on the heels of his guest-hosting gigs. But, according to Mr. Schultz, MSNBC brass has given him no definite word yet about his future—if he has one—at the cable news network.

Speculation about Mr. Schultz’s future role at MSNBC has focused on two time slots: the 6 p.m. hour (currently anchored by David Shuster) and the 10 p.m. hour (which currently features a repeat of Countdown with Keith Olbermann).

Schultz recently guest-hosted Shuster’s show, which set off chatter that MSNBC was potentially “grooming” him for a hosting gig.

with the universe.

Ironically, Ed sounds like Sylvester the cat, perfect compliment to Tweety.

2. Oh, please, old former right-winger Ed Schultz
I hope this isn't for the prime time 10:00 slot that follows Rachel. Why doesn't MSNBC actually ASK some progressive folks what they think of him. There are a lot of others who would be better. Guess I'll be turning off MSNBC after Rachel ends each night.

3. Right on cue, the Ed haters are out.
If you actually listened to Ed, you would know that he is a strong union and workers rights guy.

10. So, if he's pro-union, that's OK with you and no other issues mean anything, huh?
I reserve the right to say that I don't like him, and I won't watch him.

9. Wow DU, where you just can't get people with a personality to speak for us.
:eyes:

I posted a poll where 86% of you didn't want Randi Rhodes on TV, and for the most part, we don't support the media anyway, which the ratings prove, and ratings is the name of the game, NOT political purity.

Turn that TeeVee off, Ed won't be watching YOU.

4. Don't replace Shuster with Ed ... give him his own slot (if so inclined)
Shuster is doing a great job (imho) ... He has a
left-leaning point of view, but isn't as extreme
as KO, and pushes back effectively against his
RW guests. Ed is a personality (as noted, more
like Tweety) and may deserve a show, but I'd hate
to lose Shuster in favor of Ed.

And TOTALLY agree about Thom, except he's so
bloody effective on the radio that I'd hate
him to try TV only to find it dilutes his ability
truly educate the public.

7. Give David the 10 PM
because he has a review-style of of hosting which is fitting fo 10 PM. Ed evokes thought and detailed discussion which is needed at 6 PM.

8. Well, that's one sure way of getting me to turn off the TV after Rachel.
At least the way it is now I can miss Keith the first time and not be completely out of luck. :/

14. Ed would be great. How anyone that has been
listening to how he has improved over the past two years can still find fault - I dont understand. He is a true partisan and a good advocate for left-leaning populism. Unlike Cenk Ugur he doesnt do the "fairness" thing bashing Dems too. We NEED Advocates are are not afraid to be unfair when they need to. Listen to Schultz radio show sometime lately. he does Dem populism -- He does not let right wing callers talk over him or get away with rattling off talking points. Also I get the feeling that he can be trusted which why he gets prominent Dems to give him interviews.

15. Seder and Cenk
Schultz gets prominent Dems to give him interviews because the prominent Dems know he throws up softballs.

I vote for Seder and Cenk (sorry, Maron) to share a show in the 10 PM slot. Big Ed's ego gets in his way and he seems too much like the Limbaugh on the left.
