The new Camaro is sweet
Some people will call this just another "American gas guzzler." But it can get 29 mpg on the highway, which is not bad for a car in this class. Not every car has to be a Yaris-like econobox. American car companies, IMHO, should not be afraid to put out authentic American cars. This is as American as it gets. This shows what Detroit can do.

26. Demand, they can't just build 1000 ZR1's anymore
or Caddy CTS-V's with the 550 HP version motor (which is the same motor for the Z).

4. Gosh that is a beautiful car.
If I had to buy a car now I'd seriously consider this one. 29 MPG and 304 HP is crazy.

6. I'm not impressed with any cars made after 1978 or so.
Edited on Sat Mar-21-09 09:08 PM by Marr
From an engineering point of view, I know they're far more advanced than the older models-- but cars just seem like sexless, soulless, practical machines now. They're largely plastic and you can't work on them yourself. They're disposable conveniences now, rather than things you might hold onto for decades and slowly mold into a form perfectly suited to yourself.

I'm 36, but I've only had one car that was younger than me. I'm not interested in them. Love 60's design, though-- I had a 60's sedan that I couldn't have loved more. A little Falcon. There's a nice car for you. I'll take stripped down simplicity over creature comfort any day of the week.

14. There you go!
Mine was all restored to stock condition, but I like the tricked out ones, too. My dad had a Ranchero which was basically the same car with a pickup for the back end, and we put a very oversized engine in it (probably about the same thing the car in your picture has).

I LOVE old cars, because anybody can work on them. I remember working on my grandpa's old Plymouth when I was a teenager, and you could STAND in there with the engine. The fewer moving parts the better, as far as I'm concerned. That's why I love VW Bugs, as well. Talk about economy of design.

9. obligatory dead milkmen quote:
Rod - Hey Jack, what's happenin'?
Joe - Oh, I don't know.
Rod - Well, rumor around town says you think you might be heading down to the shore.
Joe - Uh, yeah, I think I'm goin' down to the shore.
Rod - Whatcha gonna do down there?
Joe - Uh, I don't know, play some video games, buy some Def Leppard t-shirts.
Rod - Hey, don't forget to get your Motley Crue t-shirt, y'know, all proceeds go to get their lead singer out of jail.
Joe - Uh huh.
Rod - Hey, you gonna check out the Sandbar while you're there?
Joe - Uh, what's the Sandbar?
Rod - Oh, it's this place that lets sixteen year-old kids drink.
Joe - Oh, cool.
Rod - Y'know who's gonna be there?
Joe - Uh, who?
Rod - My favorite cover band, Crystal Shit.
Joe - Oh.
Rod - Yeah, they do a Doors show, you'd be really impressed, in fact, it goes a little like this:

Love me two times baby
Love me twice today
Love me two times girl
Cause I got AIDS
Love me two times baby, once for tomorrow, once cause I got AIDS

Joe - Wow, Pretty good Jim Morrison impersonation there.
Rod - Yeah, I hope those guys have a good sense of humor and don't take us to court.
Joe - Uh, what's the court?
Rod - Never mind that,
Joe - Oh, you mean like the People's Court?
Rod - Well, that's another story; the important thing here is you gotta ask me how I'm gonna get down to the shore.
Joe - Uh, how you gonna get down to the shore?
Rod - Funny you should ask, I've got a car now.
Joe - Oh wow, how'd you get a car?
Rod - Oh my parents drove it up here from the Bahamas.
Joe - You're kidding!
Rod - I must be, the Bahamas are islands, okay, the important thing now, is that you ask me what kind of car I have.
Joe - Uh, what kinda car do ya' got?
Rod - I've got a BITCHIN CAMARO!

BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
I ran over my neighbors
BITCHIN CAMARAO, BITCHIN CAMARO
Now it's in all the papers.
My folks bought me a BITCHIN CAMARO with no insurance to match;
So if you happen to run me down, please don't leave a scratch.
I ran over some old lady one night at the county fair;
And I didn't get arrested, because my dad's the mayor.
BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
Doughnuts on your lawn
BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
Tony Orlando and Dawn
When I drive past the kids, they all spit and cuss,
Because I've got a BITCHIN CAMARO and they have to ride the bus.
So you'd better get out of my way, when I run through your yard;
Because I've got a BITCHIN CAMARO;
And an Exxon credit card.
BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
Hey, man where ya headed?
BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
I drive on unleaded.

17. Ya know what's weird?
If GM can build a 300hp Camaro that gets around 30 mpg, why can't they build a decent compact that gets 55-60mpg?

that gets 60 mpg. There might be one or two small hybrids that get 50.

24. Next year, the Cruize at an estimated 42 MPG highway with a GAS engine
Do you think they can do this overnight? Oh wait, you do, but, as I said before, I am SURE you own foreign iron, so what difference does it make to you, you wouldn't buy one anyway.

28. God, that's ugly as hell.
Such a shame. That 2009 Dodge Challenger is an amazing looking car though. Detroit needs to do more of these retro cars, but they need to go all the way. Not do a sorta retro, sorta ugly modern looking compromise, design-by-committee thing.
