Is the Papal condom issue about responsible population growth?
Does the Catholic Church view using birth control as the same sin as having an abortion. Boils down to does the priest in the anti abortion protest view the protesters he is marching with that use birth control as the same offenders as the person getting an abortion. Why did they even bring it up? All you have to do is say you are sorry and it is forgiven?

1. I don't know the answer to your questions but I think as a matter of
public health policy the Pope's admonition against the use of condoms is reckless and irresponsible.

I believe he should apologize.

4. Same here
It's an incredibly reckless thing for an institution like the RCC to say.

By any sane measure, he should renounce that statement, but that would require a maturity that Benedict lacks.

5. I know, why even bring it up, the world has enough problems
without someone of his stature thinking of another way to make poor people miserable.

19. I think the Hitler Youth Pope telling Africans not to use condoms
is a round-about genocide policy disguised as a religious requirement.

2. Methinks
They just don't like using condoms. I know I don't.

Too, some of them are prudes.

Then there is the fact that they feel if people do use condoms they will have more sex.

And the only people who have sex without the intent of having babies is for the priests only.

9. I try
Thanks for the recognition. You might be able to tell I don't have much use for established religion, except to make fun of it. They should be glad I don't go into their churches and destroy their money tables, eh?

3. banning condoms results in higher populations
Just like many other proselytizing religions, they all hope for more members. Talk about self-centered, regressive and dangerous.

7. The Pope is douche
He & minions are pushing for the demise of Africa. Africa is already fucked up, no need to push it over the edge.

16. The Catholic Church has mined the great reservoir of poor
illiterate peoples for centuries.
If the world were to halt population growth, educate the masses, and bring humanity into a sense of global responsibility the Pope would be out of a job!

17. yeesh
honestly, i hope stupid remarks like this made by the pope will turn people atheist. honestly, how birth control can be compared to medical abortions just shows how barbaric the thinking is within the church hierarchy.

20. the last 2 popes were/are all about dogma - I think they see such statements
Edited on Sun Mar-22-09 03:41 PM by tigereye
as being consistent with Church teachings, unfortunately most of the dogma is incredibly out of touch with many of the issues of the 21st century (as well as previous centuries) for that matter.

The idea of a celibate prelate whose head and intellectual thought process is steeped in the 15th century criticizing condom use only for dogmatic reasons with no allowances made for 21st health and public policy, is patently absurd, non-populist, deadly and shameful.
