Both sides rested their case over a week ago. Why the delay in giving a ruling? It really can't be that difficult of a case. Either Franken won the recount or he didn't.. Are they just trying for more publicity?

1. No reasons given.
It's more complicated than you think. There are several issues the panel of judges has to decide, and they have to write an opinion on each of the issues. All cases like this take time. The judges have probably assigned the opinion writing to each judge to keep it balanced.

They've probably already decided on the outcome, but it won't be revealed until the opinions are written. That's how this stuff works.

I expect two to three weeks from the end of the hearings.

No way to rush this.

4. "It's more complicated than you think"
That's what's wrong with our whole legal system today. Too much complexifying and intellectualizing what are really very simple, cogent matters.

Franken has won!

7. No, there's nothing wrong with the system in Minnesota.
It was an extraordinarily close race. And it switched from one candidate to the other in the recount. Justice not only has to be done, but it has to be seen to be done.

The complexity was introduced by it being so close on the original count. The recount was automatically triggered. MN law provides that either candidate may challenge the recount in court. That is what happened.

How would you do it otherwise in the same situation?

Franken will win. Franken will be seated. It won't be rushed. In my opinion, it should not be rushed.

6. No, he "doesn't expect to" take it to the SCOTUS.
And that could just be doubletalk claiming that he thinks that he'll win. Then when he loses, off to the SCOTUS he'll go.

5. It's an appellate court. It may take quite a while.
