Frontier pediatrics in Afghanistan


Navy Corpsman Jeremiah Harrold attends to an 8-month-old baby named Fatima suffering a seizure outside the Marine base in Bakwa, Afghanistan. The base medical officer gave the child medicine to reduce her 104-degree fever and asked the parents to bring her again the following day. Bakwa, like many remote areas in Afghanistan, has no hospitals, and the Marine base provides the only emergency medical care. (John Moore / Getty Images)
