I long for the days of the soft-ball-throwing sycophant lapdog white house press corps
and idiot presidents that rubbed their bald heads....

Obama handed one of those squalling Santelli-wannabees his stupid ass on national teevee.

1. I'd like the press to grow a pair
and become independent watchdogs of the democracy.

But I'm not expecting any miracles

2. I knew if I logged on here there would be others who noticed what I did.
Man, where was THAT press corp for the last 8 years. The toughest question they ever asked Bush was how his "faith" was helping him through things. Even though it is sort of their job to be tough it still ticks me off. You can be sure if McCain had been elected they would have never went back to doing their job. Thankfully, with Obama, there is nothing to worry about. He is more than capable of handling himself.

3. Oh, they're still sychophants
It's just that they're sucking up to their corporate masters. Nothing's changed except that the corporate masters no longer have a puppet president and their "questions" are stink bombs instead of softballs.

4. They don't know what to ask him
because he actually knows more than them.

7. Mal...
Your answer speaks tons of truth...."They don't know what to ask"-and the honest implication it is because he will merely answer accurately-and that was NEVER their intent!

Oddly enough I believe we may actually see some form of catharsis within the corp. For some reason I keep thinking of the lyrics to "I don't know how to love him" from Hair...

I don't know how to love him.
What to do, how to move him.
I've been changed, yes really changed.
In these past few days, when I've seen myself,
I seem like someone else.
I don't know how to take this.
I don't see why he moves me.
He's a man. He's just a man.
And I've had so many men before,
In very many ways,
He's just one more.
Should I bring him down?
Should I scream and shout?
Should I speak of love,
Let my feelings out?
I never thought I'd come to this.
What's it all about?
Don't you think it's rather funny,
I should be in this position.
I'm the one who's always been
So calm, so cool, no lover's fool,
Running every show.
He scares me so.

And all this without even mentioning the singer was a prostitute...
the irony just kills.

8. I think you are misremembering things a bit. That song is from Jesus Christ Superstar.
And yes, it's sung by Mary Magdalene and many times throughout history she has been assumed to have been a prostitute and portrayed as one, but there's nothing to indicate that this was indeed the case.

11. That very thought occurred to me
When Chucklenuts from the Washington Times was stumbling through his question about stem cells or when Dinglefritz from Fox was trying to spring his little trap, Obama parried both of them and their lame follow ups. He demonstrated a superior knowledge of the issues they were asking about and explained how he came to the decisions that neither one of them liked. He didn't get testy. He didn't get defensive. He didn't get condescending. And I figure the folks at Fox and the Washinton Times are eating their own hearts out.

6. Had they been doing their job over the past couple of decades,
we might be facing an economic meltdown. Think anyone in that room makes less than $250,000? Me neither. Their predisposition is to not like someone who will cost them money.

I was impressed with Obama tonight...not only did he give articulate responses to tough questions, but he took his questions from the biggest jerks in the business. Bush never took questions from hostile reporters.
