My 1,000th Post
Welcome to the 1,000th Post of Soylent Brice!!!

Grab a snack. Throw your feet up. Think of kittens and babies, and ignore the flames outside your window of the world as it burns. Let’s take a journey together, shall we…

I started posting here in 2006. I have lurked since 2004. For the most part I have continued to lurk, only to pop my head out like a mole (occasionally getting the hammer thrust upon me, as we all will from time to time) to taste the air and scurry about looking for food (dialogue).

I can’t begin to explain just how much impact being a part of this community has had on me, and subsequently all those who know me. When I first found this place it appeared to be the dysfunctional family that I could actually agree with more often than not. I have had one epiphany after another whilst sorting through the mountain of information and personal outpourings laid out here. My first thank you goes to all the DUers here who bust their ass to get the truth out everyday. To those DUers who will always question the way things are, for this is truly the spirit of democracy, I salute us all.

Thank you DU.

To Skinner, EarlG, and Elad: Thank you for having the courage to pursue this endeavor after the theft of 2000. It’s people like you three that are going to be the force behind the tidal wave that will wake people up in this country.

All right, enough rhubarb rubbing. Now let’s play with matches. (grabbing flamesuit)

After the last couple of weeks things have gotten a little hectic around here, beyond our monitors and keyboards (you know, the physical world) and for our President. Between Geithner, AIG, Telepromptergate, Mouth Cheney, The Almighty Krugman – blessed is he, and a million other things, our guy has his hands full. Should we cut him some slack?
Some answers found on DU:

1. “the guy has only been in office for (#) months and (#) days”

2. “yep, no difference between a ‘D’ and a ‘R’!”

3. “Palin 2012!!”

Well, the answer is really quite simple. He is an elected official that is more aligned with our ideals than the other guy was. He has good ideas. He has bad ideas. He has good picks for his cabinet. He has bad picks for his cabinet. He has good policy ideas. He has bad policy ideas.

Guess what that equates to: He is a human being and is not perfect.

Does this mean we sit back and chill? FUCK NO. Politicians do the bidding of the people, and only when, the voice of the people is HEARD. Where do politicians get their ideas? How do they get people to vote for them? By drawing plans that would encompass as much of the collectively popular ideas as possible. Unless you’re an ‘R’, and then you just lie and then say “fuck you voter” once you’re in office. They have to listen. So we must talk. We must shout. We must get through to them.

What makes us who we are? It is our ability to think for ourselves. As opposed to being a republican dittohead, we don’t always agree. This is what makes us work. We have to disagree, it’s the only way all avenues are explored, all sides of the story told, and all options explored. Enlightened thinkers are always doomed to disagreement and debate. Embrace it. Be productive with it. Constructive arguments are healthy, not the verbal attacks and negativity that we’ve all witnessed lately. I’ve seen some people mentioning how it has gotten worse lately. I disagree. It’s absolutely no different here now than it was when I first came here four and a half years ago. We just have different shit to flame each other with. We still have freeper garbage trolling around, and we still have our regular amount of antagonists. This is why it works. This is why we’re here. We’re here to get at each others throats. We are desperate to have the other side understand what we are saying and to see what we see.
No one should ever be silenced. Everyone should voice dissention. We are also here to make sure that the truth is out there somewhere, and to support a good man in leading our country out of this mess. DU is a great exmple of what harmonic balance in political debate and discussion should always be.

Keep supporting our guy. Keep debating every move he makes. Maintain the balance.

I wouldn’t change DU for the world.

4. Sorry I didn't see this post before
I've had limited time at DU. Congratulations on your 1000th post--and your restraint in gabbing! You are one who obviously thinks of their words before posting. May you continue to post for years to come!

6. Congratulations on achieving 1000 posts!
For all the sturm und drang here, we still share a certain level of trust in one another and, to paraphrase Martha Stewart, "that's a good thing."

7. Great post.
My 1000th post went by me completely unnoticed, I believe. I certainly didn't post anything as worthwhile as this.
