JACKSON HEIGHTS, New York (CNN) -- Every day, unemployed men gather under the elevated 7 train in Jackson Heights, Queens. Many of them are homeless. All of them are hungry.

At around 9:30 each night, relief comes in the form of Jorge Munoz's white pickup truck, filled with hot food, coffee and hot chocolate.

The men eagerly accept containers of chicken and rice from Munoz, devouring the food on the spot. Quiet gratitude radiates from the crowd.

For many, this is their only hot meal of the day; for some, it's the first food they've eaten since last night.

EDIT: You can donate to his nonprofit:

8. It's amazing that within the same city you can have a great man
like Mr. Munoz alongside greedy, Wall St. criminals. He makes me think there is hope for mankind.

14. Hard times bring out the best in some of us.
I would send money to Jorge if I hadn't adopted a bunch of homeless people in my area, several of them women. Every time I go out shopping for supplies, they get between 5 and 20 dollars from me and we talk about our situation. I know it's not nearly enough, but it does make a little bit of a difference for a handful of folks in my neighborhood.

15. This man is indeed a hero, but let's not forget the heartbreaking side of the story...
that we should all remember.

"For many, this is their only hot meal of the day; for some, it's the first food they've eaten since last night."

That is so sad, especially in a country that doesn't seem to blink at spending nearly a billion dollars a day on a war in Iraq.

17. K&R for this wonderful story
I have been tuning in to the final five minutes of Brian Williams' nightly news to catch the "Making a Difference" segment. It has been covering stories just like this one.
