Did you know we have two distinct classes of children in this country.
One with a protected right and one without. One class has a right to health insurance the other doesn't.

I have two friends with a seven year old child. One choses if health insurance is going to be provided for the child the other has to provide it or the state will garnish his earnings and obtain the insurance for the child. If the first friend doesn't provide insurance for his child the state does nothing.

The only thing that separates these two children from each other is one's parents are married the other's are divorced.

4. part of the divorce settlement
was probably that the father provide insurance coverage. That's the only reason the state would force him to pay for it.

7. So the tax payer will not have to carry the health insurance.
But most orders will only make the non-custodial parent carry health insurance if available through an employer and that the cost does not put them below poverty level.

5. The child of the married couple should be covered too.
I oppose mandates for adults but I think there should be for children. They didn't ask to be born and they are your responsibility. If you under a certain income you can qualify for Medicaid or SCHIP so there's no excuse.

6. Here in Iowa it's the same w/college education expenses
Married couples have no legal obligation to help pay for their child's college.

Divorced couples or never been married couples are legally obligated to contribute.

9. Very true. Unmarried fathers are required to pay for medical insurance on their kids. What gets to
me is that the mother of the child has never used it in 3 years, but has the child signed up for Medicaid! The court says nothing.
