Latest Rethug bullshit and my answer to it
Below, see the idiotic email that was sent to me by a friend of a friend:

Red Shirt
If the red shirt thing is new to you, read below how it went for one man...

Last week, while traveling to Chicago on business, I noticed a Marine Sergeant traveling with a folded Flag, but did not put two and two together..
After we boarded our flight, I
turned to the Sergeant , who'd been invited to sit in First Class (across from me), and inquired if he was heading home.

"No, he responded."
"Heading out I asked?"
"No. I'm escorting a Soldier home."
"Going to pick him up?"
"No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Iraq , I'm taking him home to his
Family."

The realization of what he had been asked to do hit me like a punch to the gut. It was an honor for him. He told me that, although he didn't know the Soldier, he had delivered the news of his passing to the Soldier's Family and felt as if he knew them after many conversations in so few days.

I turned back to him,
extended my hand, and said, "Thank you. Thank you for doing what you do so my family and I can do what we do."

Upon landing in Chicago , the Pilot stopped short of the gate, and made the following announcement over the intercom:

"Ladies! and Gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the honor of having Sergeant Steeley of the United States Marine Corps join us on this flight. He is escorting a
fallen Comrade back home to his Family.. I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open the forward door to allow Sergeant Steeley to deplane and receive his Fellow Soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt sign.."

Without a sound, all went as requested. I noticed the Sergeant saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action made me realize that I am proud to be an American.

So here's a public "Thank You" to our Military Men and Women for what you do, so we can live the way we do.

Red Fridays: Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing RED every Friday... The reason? Americans who support our Troops used to be called the "Silent Majority." We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, Country and Home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing. Many Americans, like you, like Me, and all our Friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of American's supports our Troops.. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our Troops with Dignity and Respect starts this Friday -- and continues each and every Friday until the Troops all come home, sending a deafening message that .. every red-blooded American who supports our Men and
Women20afar, will wear something RED.

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of RED much like a homecoming
football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this Country will share this with Acquaintances, Coworkers, Friends, and Family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in RED; and it will let our Troops know the once "Silent Majority" is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the Media lets on.

The first thing a Soldier says when asked, "What can we do to make things better for You?" is: "We need your Support and your Prayers. "Let's get the word out and lead with Class and Dignity, by example, and wear something RED every Friday.

IF YOU AGREE --
THEN SEND THIS ON.
IF YOU COULDN'T CARE LESS -- THEN HIT THE DELETE BUTTON

My answer (I know I shouldn't have wasted my time, but I can't STAND the bullshit):

This is such bullshit. So..."Americans who support our Troops used to be called the 'Silent Majority.' " Yeah, riiiiight. It's only the CHRISTIANS who can support the troops. Uh huh.

What total idiot wrote this? As if anyone who isn't a rolling-on-the-floor, tongue-speaking Fundamentalist Christian isn't patriotic and doesn't love their country? Give us all a break from the bullshit.

I am sick of the fucking ribbons on bumpers when these same people seldom send their own child to war. It's easy to wear a red shirt on Friday, but what do they really DO for our soldiers?

They vote for jackasses who cut their Veteran's benefits, and charge them for their armor when they're blown to pieces in battle. Of course, what else can you expect from people who believe in a giant magician in the sky who hears their inner thoughts and grants their wishes as long as they beat up their weekly quota of gays?

FUCK the "Silent Majority." They need to actually shut their fucking mouths and walk the fucking walk for a change, instead of trying to tell the rest of us what to do.

1. The first thing a Soldier says when asked
Edited on Wed Mar-25-09 03:32 PM by county worker
"What can we do to make things better for You?" is:

End this fucking war and send me home and don't send anyone else over here. At least that's what I said.

I'm thinking that those who support the troops are doing it for other reasons then for the benefit of the troops. Like you said, what are the doing for the troops? There is nothing risked or paid to put a ribbon on your car or wearing a shirt other than the cost of the shirt. What you get is the ability to pretend you give a fuck.

2. These idiots make it up as they go along.
I don't know what's wrong with people who send out this kind of propaganda. They are seriously bereft of critical thinking skills.

4. ribbons on bumpers made in china. when the ribbons first started,
they were like $5 and the money supported the troops. but now any tom, dick and harry can cover their car with bumper stickers for $1 and don't have to contribute to anything for it. Support isn't a bumper sticker. it's actually supporting the troops.... like supporting their families so they don't lose their homes while their loved ones are away, or go hungry. support is financially supporting our troops... while they are there and once they come home. supporting the troops is ensuring that they have the proper care when they are injured and that they can make a living when they get home.

12. Absoloutly BS!
Edited on Thu Mar-26-09 08:06 PM by DiverDave
The HBO show "Taking Chance" is BS too...
I used to deliver to airline freight docks, one day there was a long box, body size, with a fucking CARDBOARD covering with the flag pasted on it.
it WAS a body, sitting out on the dock, all by it's lonesome.
I wanted to beat the assholes that sent him/her to be killed whoever that was, and I wanted to cry for the waste, the fucking WASTE of whoever was under the cardboard flag.

I didn't even read the drivel that repuke wrote, I saw the REAL way the dead are treated.

7. Probably revived because of the Kevin Bacon movie
about him playing a marine escorting another marine home.

It doesn't seem logical that the same man notified next of kin and also did the escort.

"was like a punch to the gut." (Yeah! Only a MANLY man can take a punch to the gut! And that manly man DOES something about it! He wears red on Friday!)

This kind of shit drives me crazy; makes me want to puke, it's so obviously propaganda.

9. The military fetishism in our country
really, really sucks. More so when one considers that the Framers were by and large against standing armies.

11. Although this is good for laughs, this isn't even my favorite Republican fantasy.
Behold: The Egghead and I!

http://www.snopes.com/rumors/egghead.asp

No one said a word to me as I started to walk back. However, after a few seconds, people started standing up and applauding all around the restaurant. Two men got up from a table across the room and walked over to me. The first identified himself as former US Marine Lieutenant Flynn and the other man was former Gunnery Sergeant Graboski. In a loud voice after introducing themselves, Lt. Flynn said they were former Marine Guards at a US Embassy. He then said, "We are over at this table to defend the US Flag from all foes, both foreign and domestic." They then sat down and asked their waitress to bring their meals over to my table. A few more minutes went by with loud comments from the "Anti-War" table. All of a sudden, "Gunny" Sergeant Graboski stood up and in a loud voice said "All of you heard what the President said the other night. You are either with the United States or you are with the terrorists." He then said "Please stand and join me in God Bless America."

As he started singing, people all around the restaurant stood up and joined in. Several of the students at the "Anti-War" table also stood up half way through the song and joined in. Both Professors and the majority of the students remained seated and refused to sing. At the end there was a great ovation.

Just the absolute worst amalgam of Republican stereotypes, liberal hatred and jingoism one can imagine. The whole thing's hilarious for the shitty made-up dialogue alone.

14. Another right-wing lie perpetuated by those who have no clue of wars' ravages ..
Let them go to The Wall with me. Notice that I wrote "wars' ravages" and not "war's ravages." We have too many .. now, and in my day.
