Due To Economy, Rising Insurance Costs, Experts Project The Number Of Uninsured Americans To Skyrocket

An estimated 47 million people in the US are uninsured, and every 24 minutes, an uninsured American dies because adequate health care is out of reach. With the economy in recession and some of the worst job losses seen in decades, the number of uninsured is projected to skyrocket to more than 54 million by 2019.

"The cost of health insurance premiums is rising 10 times faster than the median American salary..."

4. I'll probably be one of them
I can't work. My husband's job offers benefits, but it would cost about $500 a month. We're barely putting food on the table. Where is it supposed to come from?

I have diabetes and high blood pressure. Both untreated. It's more economical for my county if I die. :(

5. my mother died this way, of pneumonia, in 2003.
She was uninsured and didn't go to the doctor or ER for fear of the cost. My father, also uninsured, died of heart failure after a stroke three days after Obama's election. Like mom, dad did not see the doctor because of cost and his hypertension, diabetes and heart disease went undiagnosed until his stroke (when it was already too late).

Rational or not, part of me will always feel like W and his perverse administration killed both of my parents. If only they could have lived to see Obama take office.

Corporate Liberals vs. Single-Payer

Fifty million Americans are without health insurance.

More than 22,000 Americans die every year from no health insurance.

The underinsured are dying too.

That’s why, according to recent polling, the majority of the American people want a Medicare for all, Canadian style, single payer health insurance system in the United States.

The majority of doctors want it.

The majority of health economists want it.

But the inside the beltway political establishment – of which Diane Rehm is a card-carrying member – despises it.

They despise it because the private health insurance industry despises it.

9. But with Canadian style health care
You might have to wait in a line sometimes. And there might not be a helicopter to fly you out of a ski resort.
