Orlando Police Chief's Gun Stolen From SUV
Val Demings Says She Left Gun In Vehicle Because Children Were Visiting

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The service weapon of the Orlando chief of police was recently stolen from her city-issued vehicle that was parked outside her home.

Chief Val Demings is taking full responsibility for the theft. She said she never leaves the gun in her car, but did the night it was taken because her family was expecting guests with children.

Demings said the 9 mm Sig Sauer was hidden from plain view, but she shouldn't have left it in the SUV.

Demings told the Orlando Sentinel, "It was devastating enough for me to be the victim of a crime and have my service weapon stolen after 25 years on the job. I need to do everything possible to get my gun off the street."
