'Dear AIG, I quit!' exec goes out swinging in NYT op-ed

Talk about publicly telling your boss to take this job and shove it.

"An American International Group Inc. executive who received a bonus worth more than $742,000 after taxes has resigned publicly — in an Op-Ed column in The New York Times," the AP reports.

"Jake DeSantis, an executive vice president at AIG's Financial Products division, said Wednesday he's leaving the company and will donate his entire bonus to charity," the Associated Press article continues. "The letter, addressed to AIG's CEO, Edward Liddy, criticized Liddy for, among other things, agreeing to the payments but then calling the bonuses 'distateful' as he testified before disapproving members of Congress."

1. The Op-Ed ...
After 12 months of hard work dismantling the company — during which A.I.G. reassured us many times we would be rewarded in March 2009 — we in the financial products unit have been betrayed by A.I.G. and are being unfairly persecuted by elected officials. In response to this, I will now leave the company and donate my entire post-tax retention payment to those suffering from the global economic downturn. My intent is to keep none of the money myself.

I take this action after 11 years of dedicated, honorable service to A.I.G. I can no longer effectively perform my duties in this dysfunctional environment, nor am I being paid to do so. Like you, I was asked to work for an annual salary of $1, and I agreed out of a sense of duty to the company and to the public officials who have come to its aid. Having now been let down by both, I can no longer justify spending 10, 12, 14 hours a day away from my family for the benefit of those who have let me down.

7. The company didn't
play fair but it sounds like he did. If I were with a company that others screwed up and I had nothing to do with it and ran my division well, I'd be pissed too.

3. I'd like a peek at that receipt to charity, please.
Make sure it's not the "Jake DeSantis Pity Party Fund."

Easy for him to say shit, isn't it? His puny little bonus that is such an insult is 20 years of teacher salary in the burg I'm from.

Course, he worked reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly hard, and these damn teachers never do anything.

Right?

If I need a sarcasm tag, you need to pay more attention.

5. Glad somebody else is posting on this clown.
I want to know much more about his job.

Was he part of AIGFP, involved in the credit default swaps, or is he one of the innocent people?

No matter what, he is making a pathetic fool of himself.

Liddy DID stand up for the three quarters of AIG FP who were NOT involved in CDSs.
