Ban proposed on 'displays of temper' by high school coaches
Ban proposed on 'displays of temper' by high school coaches

The Chicago public school system is proposing new rules for high school coaches that would explicitly ban them from pushing, pinching or paddling athletes or engaging in "displays of temper,"' the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The proposal follows allegations that at least four Chicago coaches had paddled or hit athletes. The new policy could including banning coaches for life for a single rule violation.

"We're trying to send a message. We're trying to make it crystal clear that this is not acceptable behavior,"' CPS counsel Patrick Rocks tells the paper.

The rules would also mandate criminal background checks and fingerprint analysis for prospective coaches.

But one basketball coach asks: "Are we going to get to the point where every practice is filmed so we have evidence?"

3. I would imagine the paddling/hitting is already illegal.
So why the new ban? It's stupid. I preferred my coaches (and prefer my son's coaches now) to have a little passion in them.

This is just dumb. Plain old stupid.

5. I don't have problem with it. If you can't control your temper, get help.
Playing Sports takes concentration and logical thinking.
I don't want some 40 year-old baby screaming in my ear.

I can see it now

"That pass was fine, it was just like 20 yards wide...try harder next time, 'kay?"

7. It's a good thing. People become enraged if a classroom teacher
yells at students, or paddles them, or nearly anything else, why should a coach be allowed to do this?

Criminal background checks and fingerprint analysis for prospective coaches is also not a bad idea. Not a bad idea for classroom teachers either.
