RE: A.I.G. DeSanti:: Would you work for $1.00 a year for a million$ bonus?
Edited on Wed Mar-25-09 06:39 PM by kohodog
If I knew I had a $1,000,000 bonus coming at the end, I'd figure out a way to get by, but these guys don't have to.

"I take this action after 11 years of dedicated, honorable service to A.I.G. I can no longer effectively perform my duties in this dysfunctional environment, nor am I being paid to do so. Like you, I was asked to work for an annual salary of $1, and I agreed out of a sense of duty to the company and to the public officials who have come to its aid. Having now been let down by both, I can no longer justify spending 10, 12, 14 hours a day away from my family for the benefit of those who have let me down."

..."That’s probably why A.I.G. management assured us on three occasions during that month that the company would “live up to its commitment” to honor the contract guarantee
That may be why you decided to accelerate by three months more than a quarter of the amounts due under the contracts."

What a crock. These guys who take the high road and take a salary of $1.00 for a year and get a million dollar bonus are just a bit disingenuous. How much are the auto co. execs who are taking a $1.00 salary get for a bonus after being lauded by the press as being honorable and doing the right thing. A contract that pays you $1.00 salary with a $1,000,000 bonus is hardly working for a buck a year.

Did anyone else pick up on this?

Updated to show the quote where he admitted that he was counting on more than $1.00.

3. ditto on this
i'd love to see Mr. DeSantis' last 5 years of income. Easy to work for $1 when you have a boatload of $ in the bank, which no doubt, he does.

5. And is it really working for $1.00?
He mentions being assured that the bonuses would be forthcoming no matter what and quit when asked to give it back. wtf is wrong with these guys. Talk about tone deaf blatant greedy liars. I hope Jake reads this. My heart bleeds for him.

6. The guy claims to have gotten a check for $785,000 or thereabouts
That would be $65,000 a MONTH.

A fucking MONTH.

Poor baby had to work 14 hour days. For $65,000 a MONTH.

7. Isn't that sad. And perhaps does he have an expense account?
That alone is probably more than I make. And the media makes them heroes for working for $1.00.

8. What else did he get? Stock options? Did he sell? Has he got retirement
and is it being paid into? (Damn, that last sentence is gramatically awful.)
