Tavis pays tribute to the late Dr. John Hope Franklin and revisits his conversation with the dean of African American historians, which included a discussion of Dr. Franklin's influential legacy, as well as his personal struggles with discrimination.

John Hope Franklin Tribute

Dr. John Hope Franklin was the dean of African American historians. He earned his Ph.D. at Harvard and taught at a number of institutions, including his alma mater, Fisk University. A Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, he served on many national commissions and wrote numerous books, including From Slavery to Freedom, which was published in several languages, and his autobiography, Mirror to America. The Oklahoma native was Professor Emeritus of History at Duke University. He passed away at age 94.
