Obama showed how out of touch and/or bought out he is about health care reform with his lame statement about it at his 'Town Hall" event. To say that, in essence, all we need to do is tweak what we have now with the insurance folks and pharmacy companies is ridiculous.

we can't split our interests between private and Single Payer --

Dean has to specifically call for Single Payer ---

systems that exclude corporations --- or any for-profit services.

We also have to have a right to bargain with drug companies ---

junk the current mess of a drug plan Bush gave Medicare -- and

create a new one -- minus insurance companies!

30. It isn't. People just aren't going to do it.

I've pushed for single payer for as long as I've been aware of this issue. I see what this has the potential to do. If people can pick Medicare or a Medicare-like system, they will do it because it will be cheaper than private insurance, it will allow choice of doctors and treatments, it will stop being covered because of pre-existing conditions...etc.

More and more people will choose this system because it will be cheaper and better. Private insurance will have to compete and probably go out of business. This is why they are fighting it. If private insurance is fighting it, then it's worth a look.

But is he that dumb to not see that he could turn Medicare into a national health care plan for everyone as a way to fix Medicare?

The only problem he needs to worry about, comes directly from the insurance industry, pharmaceutical industry, and for profit health care industries. Obama says the time has come... You damn right, the time has come to put these industries in their place, by putting a firewall in between profit and health care. Profit has turned health care into health rations & losses.

Sure, they claim they will no longer exclude or charge exorbitant premiums to applicants with pre-existing conditions NOW, because they fear the prospect of a government program, but, the first time a more insurance-friendly legislature or executive assumes office, they will be back to their old tricks again. Private sector health insurance, NEVER AGAIN!
