McCain: “I would have let AIG go bankrupt. If they have to fail, they fail.”

http://washingtonindependent.com/35867/mccain-on-aig-let-it-fail

Speaking at the Heritage Foundation, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said he opposed the 90 percent tax on AIG bonuses that passed the House. “I don’t support bills of attainder,” he said, to loud applause. He said he opposed the idea of controlling the salaries and bonuses of TARP-taking executives, focusing instead on creating a subcommittee to see where the money was going and to oppose any more bailouts. “The problem started when we bailed out AIG,” he said. “I would have let AIG go bankrupt. If they have to fail, they fail.”

3. You don't understand the senate! By voting to bail them out and giving speeches supporting that

bail out he was actually opposing the bailout.

4. What should be done with AIG
is to have the government take over, split off the various sections, let some of them fail, reregulate so that this shit can't be done again, and go from there.

A company that is too big to fail has a charter that is too big to enforce.

Obama would win by an even bigger margin than he did.

8. Well
.... he's been around so long that his failure to do anything about where we are today should hang on his neck like a ten-ton anchor.

The reason people didn't vote for him is that they recognized there would be no change with him. McCain is a large part of why we are where we are.

11. Q: Why did McCain want to be a Senator?
A: Because if he was elected to the House, he wouldn't know which of his seven to use...

12. Useless response to a hypothetical situation...
He is not president. He has no idea what he would or wouldnt do as president. That's just a throw away line on a topic he has no hand in fixing.

15. Mc Cain would do whatever he was ordered to do by the people in charge
He won't even stand up for his daughter with the lunatic fringe of his party.

This maverick stuff is so much bullshit.

He is afraid of the nutcase wing of his arty and of the press.

23. McCain's Deregulation Views Helped Get Us in This Mess
John McCain has never completely given up on deregulation being a good thing. When the economic crisis first started and he suspended his campaign to meet with Bush, Paulsen and Obama, he had no suggestions about how to solve the crisis.

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
September 30, 2008
Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) has gone out of his way this week to demand oversight of the greedy Wall Street bankers and lobbyists who created our current financial crisis. There's one small problem with his loud cries: He doesn't believe in regulation.

After the House defeated a bill yesterday to bail out the financial industry but also impose new federal controls on it, the Democratic presidential candidate said that McCain has "fought against common sense regulations for decades, he's called for less regulation 20 times just this year, and he said in a recent interview that he thought deregulation has actually helped grow our economy. Senator, what economy are you talking about?" Obama asked.

Obama: McCain's deregulation views aided financial fall
