'Mythbusters' Explosion Startles Yolo County Town

ESPARTO, Calif. (CBS13) ―
An explosion rocked the Yolo County town of Esparto today, and it was kind of on purpose. The popular TV show "Mythbusters" was shooting an episode of their show, but the segment didn't exactly go as planned.

The Mythbusters came out to answer the question: Can you really knock off someone's socks?

What better place to come than a rock quarry? The residents of Esparto no longer agree with that statement after Friday's event.

"They said it felt like someone rammed into the side of the school with a truck," said resident Janine Gillham, whose son was in school that day.

Ironically, the filming was a secret, so people wouldn't come close enough to be in danger from the blast. The explosion ended up being big enough to be felt and head by everyone in Esparto, and it caused damage at local homes and businesses.

"Scared the hell out of everybody," said Lavell McCray, whose store suffered damage in the blast.

1. Well, did they knock off the socks, or do we have to sit through their miserable show to find out?

9. We may never know...
from the article...
Show producers won't say if you can really knock off someone's socks, saying people will have to watch the episode to find out.

.....

However, on the news this morning they were saying they have not decided if they were going to broadcast the show or not.

15. It's great family entertainment! My boys love it. We especially loved
the episode when Jamie and Adam got drunk, slapped each other and fell off the treadmill.

12. It was bound to happen
They keep setting off bigger and bigger explosions. Eventually you knew they would cause some damage with one of them.

BTW if you want to see something really funny google "mythbusters - do pretty girls fart?"

14. What idiots.
Why would they need to test that? Plenty of people have been struck by fast moving objects (like race cars) and been knocked out of their shoes and sometimes socks.

To a certain degree it depends on how loose one likes his footwear.

21. I agree. I used to like their show
but they ran out of honest-to-goodness myths and now just try to re-enact crappy stunts from movies (Oh really? You might not be able to blow up a mega-shark like in Deep Blue Sea? That settles that!) or "prove" figures of speech that no one seriously questions.

20. one of the greatest shows on...
"McCray's convenience store lost a window, and their surveillance monitor fell to the floor. "It evidently broke loose from the ceiling," McCray said."

That's the price you have to pay so we can watch greatness...suck it up!
