Paging Bobby Jindal! More Redoubt Explosions Shoot Ash 65K Feet In Air
http://www.avo.alaska.edu/activity/Redoubt.php

Seismic activity has declined since the eruption at 09:24 AKDT this morning. Additional ash emissions may occur and another large eruption remains possible.

The 09:24 AKDT event produced a mudflow down the Drift River.

An ashfall advisory in in effect until 4 PM this afternoon for the western Kenai Peninsula where up to 1/8 of an inch of ash could accumulate. For more details refer to the NWS Redoubt Coordination web page (http://pafc.arh.noaa.gov/volcano.php ).

1. Pffft. That's not even 12.5 miles
Don't even bother contacting the GOP's shining star until you break thirteen.

2. On NOLA radio this morning one of the topics
was where is bobby jindal? He spends the vast majority of his time in other states raising money to RUN FOR REELECTION AS GOVERNOR OF LOUISIANA. And the natives are getting restless about it.

3. I am standing at work right now in San Francisco: I work for Alaska Airlines
All flights to Anchorage have been canceled till further notice.

We laughed our asses off when Jingo made that comment--Alaska has so many volcanos, that people in Anchorage see as much ash as they do snow! I guess the Gods are angry at Sarah Palin for refusing the stimulus, eh? Too bad she can't find a virgin to throw in the crater to calm their wrath. Howz that abstinence education working for ya, Sarah??

Oh, so many jokes, so little time!!

4. You are waaaay off!
Just imagine how bad the volcano would be if you didn't have God's favorite daughter living in the Governor's mansion right now. You should thank your lucky stars that Palin is at the helm, you betcha.

I'm betting that this eruption is God's retaliation for Strickland's ouster.

8. No, I talked to God personally
And the Old Boy is p-i-s-t mad that Ted Stevens lost his bid for re-election. "Seeing that guy actually made me feel young and calm," the Supreme Being sighed.

6. pink-o, we got stuck in Nome on Monday
where we had been for a week celebrating the Iditarod finish. We couldn't get out until Tuesday night at 10:00 p.m. The good thing was that the last few mushers into Nome had lots of spectators, and we got to stay for the Red Lantern banquet. Plus we got to ride home across the aisle from Lance Mackey.

9. Cool! I bet Lance and the dogs could've gotten you home!
...but I guess it was better to wait for the planes to fly again.

I hope Alaska Airlines treated you right!!

10. I like flying Alaska Airlines,
and they were great about getting us rescheduled with little hassle.

11. I'm glad--cuz within Alaska there really isn't a choice!
It's either us or a bush plane! I've had friends who were treated less-than-respectfully because of Alaska's monopoly on the flights up there!

I've only been to Anchorage twice: I love it in the summer, but your state bird (the mosquito as large as a peregrin falcon!) ate me alive at Alyeska one year!! Also, if one is a left-wing vegetarian from San Francisco, one has to tread carefully sometimes!

12. Yes, that is true.
Even if you're a left-wing carnivore from Anchorage sometimes you have to tread carefully. My camera case that has a DU sticker, a bumper sticker from the 10/27 antiwar demonstration in SF a couple years ago, and the "coexist" sticker got some pretty strange looks up in Nome last week.

5. We are most concerned about the Drift River
because Chevron has oil storage tanks at the base of the volcano very near the river. If the mud flows breach the protective levy and spill the oil, it would be disastrous for the Cook Inlet salmon fishery. Mudflats has an excellent post at HuffPo on this. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/akmuckraker/drain-baby-drain-6-millio_b_179157.html
