San Francisco Uhuru Movement protests for Lovelle Mixon, called "a true hero, a soldier."
Vigil held for suspected Oakland cop killer
As the city prepares for a massive public funeral for four police officers slain in the line of duty, dozens took to the streets in a show of support for the man authorities say was their killer.

Organized by International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement, the march Wednesday evening took participants near a police substation within sight of the two locations where Lovelle Mixon allegedly shot the veteran officers before being slain himself.

Loved ones and supporters walked through the streets chanting, "OPD you can't hide, we charge you with genocide!" There were no officers patrolling the march route.

"I don't condone what he did, but it's bringing to light the frustrations between the community and the police," said Uhuru Movement member Kihad Deen. "This gives people a chance to speak their minds."

Mixon's cousin, Dolores Darnell, 26, addressed the small crowd, calling him "a true hero, a soldier."

2. oh shit. people can be so stupid.
if there wasn't thing this won't do is bring positive attention to the concerns about how the OPD operates.

Oh yeah, and it's callous and disgusting as well.

6. He was also an alleged rapist
He did five years for shooting someone during a carjacking, I wonder how that person is recuperating? Anyone who sees him as a hero is one hate-filled dude or dudette.

8. Um... define "that group," would you.
I'm disgusted by anyone trying to make a hero out of a child rapist cop killer, but what do you mean by "that group?"

10. Mixon was a criminal, who in his own family's words
could not stand the thought of going back to jail, so he took four police officers down trying to avoid it. For the Uhuru group to use this tradgedy as a rallying point against the OPD is beyond contempt.

14. Hate speech...
needs to be called out for what it is, though. Even the Uhuru Movement has been forced to backtrack by their "progressive" allies. Some of their more recent pronouncements have emphasized the need for dialogue. Fortunately, I think the toothpaste is out of the tube for these jerkoffs.

16. This is just one of the craziest things I think I've ever read. This wasn't
like the kid shot by the BART cop. This guy was a wanted fugitive. And he had a record of prior BAD BAD acts.

I'm just stunned by this.

17. I think this situation...
generally requires us to discuss what the rules of the game should be regarding civil discourse and racial politics. I believe that too long a leash has been given by "progressives" in relation to Black Nationalist Movements. When looking at the political continuum there is very little difference between many of the these groups and Fascist movements worldwide, other than the amount of melatonin in their skin.

This double standard needs to be addressed. Progressives will often point to the economic angle of this and how many of these groups are attempting to lift up the poor. How is that different to the populism used to promote Fascist parties? They usually aren't supported by the rich. Black Nationalism = Fascism.

19. I disagree. It has nothing to do with progressives and more to do with
anti-police sentiments that are building up due to some of the recent outrageous actions by the police. BUT, that does not give any group, black, white, progressive, liberal, Black Nationalists, no one, an excuse to use a situation like this as a political/social platform of any kind. That is just wrong.
