3. I'm just a short walk away from RIM Headquarters.
As for your second question, we're exposed to a lot of the stuff from the south. Being just a 3 hour drive from Detroit is important around here.

12. Posting from Canada, here.
Toronto, Ontario. Why do I care about American politics? We sleep with the elephant in Canada. Everything you do either makes an impact or eventually migrates north.

I'm still waiting for the Bush bunch to be indicted.

17. Australia. Because I'm an Amurrican . . .
Even though I'm happy to have spent 15 of the last 20 years out of the country.

And because -- like it or not -- what America does has a huge impact on what happens around the world.

25. Posting from Australia
And my interest in US politics is because be it good, bad or indifferent, like your mind-numbing, populist tv shows, it affects the rest of the world in a mind numbing, populist way.

All that aside though, the most fascinating thing about posting to a US board is watching the people. There are real gems here, people who think outside the box, who pose intelligent questions and are by nature, world citizens. On the other hand there are many posters who reinforce the belief that Americans gobble up every little bit of bullshit presented to them with very little critical analysis.

Following DU for over five years I am struck by the majority who have absolutely no idea what is happening outside your country and tend to laugh it all off with not-so-witty one liners and broad brush strokes. Like anywhere else, these are the people who I tend not to pay much attention to, their presence reminding me of the almost fanatical parochialism of most americans who participate in international conversation.

On the plus side there are many thoughtful world citizens here. They are mainly shouted down by the wanna-be wits who like to participate in mindless criticism of things they do not understand.

It's all good. You can pick your friends :)

Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 09:48 AM by bdamomma
sometimes living outside of the country gives a person a different perspective, and whatever happens in the US does have its ripple affects.

30. Canadian here...
I love American politics, it is much more entertaining than Canadian politics. We are quite boring here (not a bad thing, imo) over all with only the occasional firefight to liven things up, lol.

What happens in the US tends to affect us to a greater or lesser degree so it is important to keep a watchful eye to the south.
